ADON responsibilities

Specialties LTC Directors

I am an ADON at a SNF in West Michigan area. I have been here several years and have seen several DON's come and go. Have been offered the job but do not want it. My Question is I have over 20 years experience and am making 25.00 an hour. Is this the norm for my area not sure? Also I am now being expected to take call on week ends which I don't mind but am not being paid for it unless I come in. Then my normal wage. I can get 1 or more calls during the night . I was told no ADON gets paid for this responsibility. I am not salary. Feeling taken advantage of any comments or advice? Thanks

IMHO, sounds like you're a little underpaid! Especially with all your experience :) Stand up for yourself!

I am an ADON in northern Indiana. I make just a couple bucks more than you. I am salary and expected to take my turn at on-call rotation. Because I am salary, I DO NOT get paid any extra even when I get called in (now that sucks). My DON is wonderful and almost always slides me in a day off during the week when I get called in, but this is really not the policy. In fact the policy states there is no comp time and this is just an expectation of the job. If she ever quits and I get stuck working a lot of free weekends I won't be there very long!

I think your pay is somewhat low but, depends on what the norm is for your area. My ADON rotates call along with 5 others. They all get comped 4 hours for just being available by phone. If they come in, then they also take time off for that. My ADON is salaried.

Specializes in Med Surg, Nursing Administration for SNF.

WOW. I must say, I am a bit shocked at your pay rate. I am an ADON in central Fla (we are considered one of the lowest pd states for nsg) and am currently at 68K salary with seven yrs exp including MDS & Case Mgt as well as ADON. HOWEVER . . . I am responsible for Restorative, Infection Control, Hiring, General Orientation, Staff Development, Employee Health, and various other management duties. I take call for a week at a time every five weeks and I usually dont work less than 50 hours a week. That is usually the norm for this locale though. Most of the nursing management jobs are salaried - and you do the work of four people - for alot more than 40 hours a week. Translated, I guess that would be about 25-26. per hour.

If you want more info on pay rates you can go to Career Builder and it will tell you what the going rate is for all kinds of specific jobs in your area.
