So freaking scared

Nursing Students LPN-RN

I start LPN to RN transition next week and I'm scared to death. Like panic attack scared. I only have 3 semesters to finish my RN, which I'm glad for, but my year in LPN school was the hardest year of my life. And now I'm doing all over again for RN. I must be crazy.

Slow your roll, girl. You've got this. You've done it before, and you can do it again.

Did you catch that last bit? You've already done this before. There will be new information, and there will be a ton of it, but much of it will be familiar.

You're gonna eat this year for breakfast.

When this LPN to RN course sits around a campfire with its friends, it's going to tell horror stories about you, and how you absolutely murdered it.

You've already dominated the NCLEX once. Just wait until the poor bastard finds out you're going to sit for it again in a year. It'll need therapy.

Seriously though, you've got this. Ordinary people with kids and jobs and crazy struggles do this every day. Take a deep breath, and recognize all the knowledge you already have. You'll be okay.

Ok, so you're crazy. Guess what? It's not a competition... ;)

You've been through nursing school before and you know how the process goes. You're primed and ready for this because it's just going to be more information, just as fast, and you've learned a good percentage of it already so you'll be adding to your knowledge base. Unlike some of your classmates (probably most of them) who have never done this before, you'll be sitting pretty because you know this stuff. I'm not saying you should slack off, just that you don't need to fear this.

Also the NCLEX? You've beaten it before. NCLEX RN is much the same, just with the more in-depth knowledge that you should have as an RN so there's nothing to be freaked out about that either. How you'll arrive at your answers may be a little different because of the step up in knowledge and responsibility, but that's just part of the game.

Bottom line: You got this.

BTDT a couple of times. I was previously an LPN who went to school to obtain an ADN. I will echo what others have said. You have done this before. It is pretty much the same info, just a lot more detailed. Before you had to learn stuff you never knew. Believe it or not, you probably know a lot of this information.

I feel your fear though, I really do. I just graduated from a BSN program and totally freaked out thinking the program was going to be difficult. It wasn't a cake walk, but it was doable, because I already knew the basics from my ADN program. My BSN was more of the same, just more in-depth.

They all build on themselves. :)

You will find that your foundation will help bridge the gap into the role as a nurse.

When you get to the NCLEX, you will have that familiarity and slay it.

And once you step into your new role, it will be an adjustment, but it will "click" and you will "get it".
