Thanks for your kind help, "Extrastinky", I guess private nursing schools are no different from used car salespersons- find the fool who is willing to pay the most for the least...AAAArrrrrrrrrHHHHH!!!!

caliotter3, keep in mind, this doesn't include other costs that may incurred (admission, library use, etc).
Are you deciding not to go because of the cost? Your alternative is to be on waiting lists in different schools...

kayipster, lol. Thats why I don't buy cars from dealerships.

I'm looking at WGU, where six months of tuition is only $4250, and one comes away with a BSN. Seems to be a better alternative, although I could see this school being reasonable at half the cost if there were not a less expensive opportunity out there.

Well, you can always take your GE classes at your local community college and transfer the credits to Shepherd University. It makes it way cheaper.
WGN looks like a nice school, however its exclusively an online school...How would one get internships.

WGU offers clinical placements at five or more facilities in the greater Los Angeles area, one of them being Cedars-Sinai Hospital.

X-tra Stinky : Do you mind telling me what classes are transferable to their ADN program? I have just finished my prerequisites this quarter at a community college and I called them this afternoon, a Japanese lady with strong accent was helping me. So did you say all the teachers are Korean? I am surprised! They told me they have BSN program. Do you know how long is the LVN and the ADN program?

As long as you've taken some college courses, its much easier to get into the school. You might have to take the TEAS Entrance Exam, but who knows, I could be wrong.

The vast majority of the staff and the instructors are Korean. Its kinda intimidating, but just but not impossible to get things done. Just be patient.

jojodordor, first look at the classes/price list I posted here.
Any classes on the year 1 list are transferable. As long as you've taken some college courses, its much easier to get into the school. You might have to take the TEAS Entrance Exam, but who knows, I could be wrong. If you already have a bachelor's degree like me, you're exempt from the exam.

The person you should speak to is Kyle M. Cho (Director of International Student Services) (213)481-1313 he's one of the most coherent, English speaking admissions staff that will guide you step-by-step through the process. Hurry up though, Spring semester starts January.
Thanks for the information! I am interested in their LVN and BSN program at Shepherd. I don't have a bachelor's degree in other field but I am taking TEAS test in January (haven't started studied yet! >_<) so it should be fine. So I am assuming their BSN is 3 years? I am not sure if I should get the LVN license first and transfer to other cc or should I just get a BSN from shepherd and that's it. Have you started clinical yet? Do you know what are the clinical rotations? *v* thanks!

    Any time!

Like you, I was thinking about just getting LVN certified, but there are other cheaper schools that finishes faster (i.e., Palladium Technical Academy in El Monte has a 15month LVN program). I don't want to keep going to school my entire life, so a direct path to RN is what I want.
If you're getting a BSN, you might as well work for a M.S.N and become a teacher. If you're able to take courses at your local cc, save some money and do it. Then transfer to Shepherd.
In my opinion, the only reason to get anything higher than a ADN would be that you want to teach, work in the federal/state government, or some fancy private facility.

I have no idea on what the clinical rotations are...You should call/go in person and ask.

Good luck jojodordor and hope to see you there soon. :spin:

I called them last week and talked to the Japanese woman on phone and she told me to send them my transcripts and stuff but until today (Tuesday) I haven't heard back from them, not even a reply to my email. And I actually called them yesterday hoping to speak to the person who was helping me last week, they said she wasn't in the office and I left a message asking her to call me back! but she didn't. So I called her just now, and she was actually in the office today! This is kinda intimidating.. I mean she never called me back or follow me up even she knew I had been calling! I asked her if she got my email and she didn't even open my email but she said she knew I sent her a email and another person would call me back tomorrow, she's in a hurry to hang up on me! wt..

I don't know what to say...Unfortunately, for family reasons, I'm post-phoning a semester or two and going back to my home-country. Thus, I most likely will stop posting on this forum...

    >I called them last week and talked to the Japanese woman on phone

There is no Japanese worker there.
There is one Korean lady who speaks a little bit of Japanese language, but not enought to keep
    conversation in Japanese.
This lady seems not good at conveying a message because I had to call 3 times just to make sure she will give my message to the person who in charge and gave her my phone number 3 times...

I think this school is like a one of the private LVN schools.
They accept any students who want to enroll without any difficult entrace tests and get some money in advance.
However, they will not keep any students who fail an exam during the program since they don't want to jeopadize their high passing nclex rate.
This method is also used for most private LVN school at the moment.

It is very easy to get into the program of private school, but you should be prepared to keep passing exams of the program since each semester is pretty expensive.
