Nursing Students LPN-RN

Published

I have been a lpn for 10 yrs and just went back to school last semester. I have gone for my Rn in the past and quit. I had almost all my sciences done with all B's and now being that it has been 13 yrs, i have to take them ALL over. Would it be better for me to just go from the complete beginning or go thought he lpn to rn program. I go to school in Pittsburgh at CCAC, and was wondering what would benefit me the most. By going thru the lpn to Rn program i am only really skipping a clinical rotaion it seems, They will be expecting me to know everything as a lpn already, lol,,

I would go with whichever made it easier to get into the RN program. The refresher from the beginning can not hurt. But the LPN to RN avenue will probably make admission easier. Either way, though, the one that gets you in and gets you going! Good luck!

I agree with the previous poster. If you've been a LPN for 10 years you alreadyd will be comfortable with the clinicals. The theory portion may need some brush up, but that's normal. Sometimes it's hard to switch hats from LPN to SN once again, but you can do it. Good Luck

I went the Excelsior route.

Just wanted to say good luck.

As far as the science courses, I believe it doesn't matter. If the time limit has expired on the classes, its the same for ADN or LPN-RN. However, I'd do the LPN-RN to save one to two semesters of your RN coursework!! You don't need that stuff the first semester and a half of RN school. But the science courses are a load no matter which route you take. Good luck no matter how you figure it, and get all A's if you do have to go through it again. Little else seems acceptable these days for AP, micro, and almost everything else.

I'm doing LVN-RN now. We skipped the entire first year. No they did not expect us to know it all. But the students told us that we were lucky to have skipped the first year because some of the teachers and clinical instructors were soooo bad in first year. Like they were trying to weed out the students? We felt lucky indeed after some of the things we heard. The second year teachers were great.

I know I would go whichever way was the fastest. Good luck! :D

That's what I heard was first semester was hell.

That worked out sweet.

Best wishes!!

I was an LVN going for my BSN, they told me that the LVN to BSN was almost impossible to get into because they did it space available basis, so I went ahead and began the straight through route. The first two quarters I would have saved were beyond boring. They were learning how to do bed baths/vitals. Second quarter, how to give PO meds and basic SQ/IM injections. If you are comfortable with those skills, I would skip it if given the choice. It was really a complete waste of my time.

Good luck to you!
