CLEP Chemistry?

Anybody done this? A school I am looking at requires chem in either HS or college level. It was not a requirement in my LPN program, and well...in HS I admit, I was not the best student in the world. That was 20 years ago, and if I knew then what I know now I would have done more than just take the minimum to graduate. But we live and learn. :)

Soooo, how rough is it? I have never CLEP'd anything. I was looking at study guides online and am sure I can pick one up at Borders, but would I be wasting my time?

Thanks all!

Hi Lori,

I've clepped other courses, but not Chemistry.

I was in the same boat as you but with Algebra. One of the admission requirements for my program was Algebra, either in HS or college. I'd escaped having to take it until last year. I tried to CLEP it (after studying various sources) and failed miserably. So I took Algebra last semester. Fortunately for me, that class meets the admission requirement as well as the mathematics requirement so I'll never have to take it again.

I had Chemistry in HS and I took it again a couple of years ago (it's required in my program); it wasn't bad. It was condensed into a summer session of 6 weeks so it was very intensive. Plus we had to be in the lab daily. If you've never had the instruction, I think clepping it would be quite difficult. Plus, most programs are going to require the lab component (unless this is just an admission requirement, and not one for the degree).

I haven't helped you at all, have I?

I wish you much luck and success in however you choose to do it! Let us know, OK?

I've clepped 4 classes. Both psychology's, algebra, and college math. I'm very interested in the chemistry clep, but I *have* heard that it's the hardest one. I couldn't even start on the practice test they give for it... Maybe someone else on here's taken it though. I'd be very interested to hear their opinion.

It's rough, but you can pass it.

Did you have high school chemistry? If you remember some of it that will help.

I suggest the REA CLEP chemistry book and the Schaum's outline.

Sometimes schools will give you credit for one semester of Chem if you get a particular score and 2 semesters for another score. Make sure you call your school so you know what your target is.

Truly, I would not start the CLEP journey with Chem. Take Human Growth and Development, Psychology or Sociology CLEP first. They are much easier and will help you build up your confidence!

I clepped Sociology, it was not hard. You can find a couple free online courses, or go to Border and get a book. I had never taken sociology before, passed it no problem. I would not CLEP Chemistry, go for Psychology or Sociology.

I'm in the process of studying the REA Sociology CLEP guide for this exam. Do you recommend any other sources of study?

Hey Don I emailed you the two sites I used. The Sociology test is pretty much common sense.

I am think about trying human growth and development I think that will be harder than sociology.

I received the info and I am very grateful; thanks so much!

Hello, I've been thinking of going on to RN. I often wondered what it was like to be an RN student. What is it like in school? What is the hardest you believe you had to do? All replies appreciated:)
