Care plan assignment for obscure subject.

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Published

I am currently an LPN and am in my RN year of school, I have an assignment to write a care plan for IVPB with 3 goals and 3 nursing interventions. I feel like I am normally really good at care plans, but for some reason this one has got me stumped. I am hoping some of you might have ideas. I can't figure out if I am having a hard time with it because my brain has officially quit on me or if it is just a hard topic. Although, I have looked it up in my NANDA book with no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

IV piggy back???? lol
That was my first guess also, but I thought it was too simplistic!

I just couldn't see a care plan for it.

Yes, IV piggy back. I also can't see a care plan for it. this is why I am begging for help. I asked my instructor and she said "that is an easy care plan" Ha Ha yeah right!

ok iv fluids. proper mixing solution. risk for fluid imbalance. risk for iv infiltration. risk for infection.

care plan? I'd go with general medical for that one. obviously getting abx if piggyback, no?

goals : pt will be pain free at iv site. pt will receive proper timing of doses of ______. pt will remain free of infection at iv site?

I dunno, just some thoughts- been a while since I had to do this.HTH.

Risk of Fluid Imbalance--presenting IV fluids of any kind

Risk of Skin breakdown--at IV site

and my personal favorite a discharge care plan--cause everyone needs one, and discharge planning starts on admission!!

you could also do an alteration of health care maitenence, or something about patient education (regarding the meds)

Good luck!!

You all have been a ton of help.....Probably more than you know! Thanks!!

I was thinking this was some fancy, detailed, in-depth diagnosis. Like I was thinking this was some new name for IABP (intra aortic balloon pump) or something similarly advanced! NOOOOO ... it's something simple!

But thinking along your real dx - risk for infection, site infection and infiltration, ALLERGY risk, etc are the first ones that come to the front for me.
