Hello! I have created this topic to see if there are any other LPN's out there who have been LPN's for over 20 years and at a later stage in life have decided to go get their RN? I am an LPN and have been since 1994 and now have applied to the fast track LPN to RN program at Valencia Comm College in Orlando. Are there any other's out there in my boat? What made you decide to go back exactly??

I've met people who did that. I say go for it. Follow your dreams. Your LPN experience will be useful when applying for RN jobs and working as a RN. The great thing about nursing is that people go into it all different times. An RN degree might offer you more job security and you'll get paid more for some of the same things you were doing as a RN.

I am in my late 40's. I have been an LVN for 15 year. I begin the LVN to RN transition program in May of 2016. I don't view it as going back, although it is. I see it as finishing what I started. It was always my plan to get my RN. After I finish I plan to do an RN to BSN or RN to MSN but ultimately become a Nurse Practitioner. I am ready for the increased opportunities available as an RN.

I've been an lpn for 1 year and I'm over 40. I enrolled into lpn - rn program in November 2015. I'll be finished with my prerequisite in 2 weeks than on to the nursing program. My graduation date will be 4/2017.

copelin- Where did you apply to? I am surprised you were able to enroll without having all your pre-reqs done. I should graduate in Summer 2017. Right now I am waiting to hear whether I have been accepted in to the fast track Program at Valencia. Have a good day!

It's crazy for us competent Lvns when we go back to school. I went to rn school simply because it was my original goal, to become an RN.

It's been extremely difficult for me because Lvns are ostracized. Seen as outsiders. I hate to say this, but for as many kind people I've encountered, I've met many more who are mean.

I'm almost finished with my 3rd of 3 terms and am determined to finish.

Sorry I'm So negative,

I'm attending Academy of nursing in West Palm Beach. I'm taking my pre requisite there as well.

I am currently looking into Nursing schools to attend. Could you inform me what accreditations Academy of Nursing in West Palm beach has?

I have been an LPN for only 3 years, worked 6 months LTC and 2.5 yrs in ambulatory, and I am BORED. I decided my heart has always been working with babies, L&D, NICU, withdrawal babies, so since my local hospital doesn't hire LPN's, I will go back. Just signed up for chemistry starting in April. I will be 45 in April. I have been talking myself out of it for 3 years now, but it's a nagging feeling I just can't shake.
