Starting Clinicals on Tuesday!!

Ok so I am starting my first offical rotation of clinicals on Tuesday and I am terrified....We did our pre-clinical rotation at a nursing home and it wasn't so bad but I know whats comming up is going to be a lot more work...anybody got any good advice who's done it already??? :imbar

Good luck with clinicals, is this your first semester, I am a second year and attempting care plans for pediatrics. I feel about like you do! I am lost with these.

When you first go in, make sure you know where the supplies are...most clinical instructors do a sort of savanger hunt for their students to know where the medications, refrigerator, charts, MARs, etc are located. Be clear on what the instructors want you to do...some are very strict and only want you to do what is assigned or have a focus for the day. Be helpful to the nurses, aides (if allowed) and the patients. If you have any difficulty, report to the instructor so that she can intervene. Best of luck!

Never be afraid to ask if you don't know. It will be much more impressive to have a student with you that is not afraid to admit that they need help than to be a know it all. Just try and make sure your questions are appropriate for the situation.
