We start pharm next week

any advise ?

We start with pharm math, then theroy ending with lab.

We need an 85 in each part.

My whole class is shaking in our scrubs

practice your math. pay attention this is a very crucial part of a nursing program. if you don't understand it, ask the teacher to explain it again. also, your school may offer math tutoring hours! :)

Study guides are your FRIEND. At least in my pharmacology class it was. After the first test I was really scared--the format was not at all what I had thought it would be and I was worried I might not be able to do it.

I started using the study guides the instructor provided and came out of the class with an A. For the math part we had a separate medical math class. Just really hammer those conversions into your head and you'll be fine.

I actually should start reviewing the conversions again before my program starts.

i thought the math part was the way easiest part of pharm, i think remembering the meds and all their axn is the hardest part, bc theres a million of em. i think the easiest thing to do is do the reading b4 u even get to class, bc at least then u have some idea as to wat ur instructor is talkin abt, then ask questions, tons of them.

i found this really cool thing that somebody had posted earlier for remembering meds:

caine= local anesthetics

cillin= antibiotics

dine= anti-ulcer agents

done= opiod analgesics

ide= oral hypoglycemics

iam= antianxiety agents

micin= antibiotics

nium= neuromuscular blocking agents

olol= beta blockers

ole= anti-fungal

oxacin= antibiotics

pam= antianxiety agents

pril= ace inhibitors

sone= steroids

statin= antihyperlipidemics

vir= antivirals

zide= diuretics

this is gonna help me ace my midterm tomorrow

The list above is good, but not always accurate.

My class made note cards for each drug we studied. There was a general note card that was for each catagory of drugs, such as diuretics, antibiotics, etc. On the catagory card was generalized information about adverse reactions, actions etc. Then we made cards for specific drugs with their actions, interactions, etc. After you make the cards, every chance you get, review, review, review. If you are like me, the names of drugs, generic and official, are confusing and some have several names. The only way I was able to remember them was with review.
