Im a nursing student interested in getting feed back on how to pass fundamentals for LPN. The scenario based questions are taking some time getting use to and feed back would be great. I heard pharmacology was one of the hardest nursing classes in the program however I'm having no trouble in the class. Thanks in advance for all you guys suggestions and input.

Can you be more specific? What kind of scenario-based problems are you having trouble with? Some particular aspect of care? Is your concern more about the style of question, or difficulties you are having with the course content?

It's more critical thinking questions that I'm trying to grasp. An example of this is I could tell you the text book definition of proper aseptic technique but if you put it into a critical thinking multiple choice question I might struggle with 2 possible right choices but in the end pick the wrong answer. I hope this helps clarify as me giving you a specific question might not help. Again I'm learning the fundamentals and this is my weakest area thus far.

Never struggle with 2 right answers, and go with your first, gut instinct. Do not read into the question more than what it is asking you. Do not create scenarios and alternate stuff in your head (

Critical thinking is something that is learned over time. I look at it (as I do pharmacology as well) "what do you have, what do you need" or for general fundamentals, "what am I presented with, what is the goal".

Best wishes going forward!! Another thought is that if it seems that there's more than one who is struggling with fundamentals, start a study group to talk about it, to go over it, to help you all. Also, during your classroom time, ask for clarification. Ask if the teacher has a case study or experience that can be shared so that you can put a fundamental in perspective. Once you start seeing a whole patient approach, it will become clearer.

Remember, what do you have, what do you need, what is the goal?

Extremely well spoken. Your not the only one who makes up things when testing. It is a nasty habit that I will become more conscious of not doing thanks to your input. What program are you in? Are you doing Lpn/lvn as well or a higher degree program?

If you have funds for it, try to get a fundamentals review book to become familiar with NCLEX-style questions; you can find books such as The Success Series on Amazon.

Use them to prepare for exams; review the question and the rationales in order to understand WHAT the question is asking you in order to understand WHY the answer is the BEST answer.
