Hello everyone. I know it's a little early but I wanted to know if anyone is planning on applying to the LVN program when applications open up in March? I'd love to wait it out together!

Yessss I would LOVE to wait it out with you! I applied last year (2016) and again for 2017. Last year it was stated that I wasn't randomly selected, and was only selected to be an alternate, but no one dropped. Also, last year they kept the applicantion period open for an extra month with a closing date of May 1, 2016. I sure hope it closed on time this year. I'm waiting it out I'm so excited, studying everything I can to be prepared. I hear dosage and calculation cuts many people from the program. Have you heard anything??? Not many people tread on PCC LVN program, only the RN or Ladder program.

It's so great to have someone to wait it out with! I had completely lost hope! I'm excited to finally have someone to talk with about it. I noticed the same thing about there not being many posts for straight LVN. Unfortunately I don't think I'll make it in this year because I don't have my CNA certification. They allowed me to submit my application anyway on the basis that if I was chosen I had to be certified by the time class starts. Unfortunately all the programs in the area start too late for me complete it by the time classes would start. Hopefully I can pull something off. I hear that dosage calculations are much like dimensional analysis, and thank God that that was the only thing I was good at in Chemistry so hopefully I can catch on quickly. Are you currently taking any classes at PCC/any other school? I'm in my last month of Microbiology, the exams are a lot harder than I expected them to be.

Why dont you sign up for CNA classes now? The program really isn't that long I took mine at West LA college in Culver City and it was only about 3 months or so. It's not a terribly hard class or anything the worst part is remembering everything you need to do for the skills portion of the state test.

I was in the same position last year. I applied in March 2016, but my CNA class wasn't complete until late June, by that time, I had already been emailed early June by a PCC nursing department assistant requesting my CNA certificate, (which was still in progress) so after I finally submitted my CNA Cert. I received an email back a couple days later stating I had been selected as an alternate, and if anyone dropped before Aug 19th...I might get a spot. I've completed an AA at Santa Monica College, completed Chem, Micro, A&P, and any other classes needed for the RN program. I'm in the application process at a few Los Angeles CC's for RN, but I would love to do LVN then, LVN to RN at PCC. The LVN program is less competitive than the RN programs, and if I needed a break between the two programs, I could work as an LVN for a few months and have a guaranteed spot in the PCC LVN to RN program.

I'm so sorry I never got the notification about your response or I would have replied sooner! That sucks that you didn't make it in last year! I really hope you make it in this year. I did apply but unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to attend if selected. Every place I've called doesn't start their CNA course until late August :( I'm going to try applying to the El Monte LVN program as well since it's closer to me and doesn't require the CNA certification. If I don't get in at that one then I'll attend Cal State LA and major in public health and hopefully with a bachelors it will be easier to get into nursing school. My plan was to get my LVN and then apply to APU for their LVN to BSN program. Hopefully it's in the cards for me. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that a miracle happens.

I went to American Career Institute in Downtown LA, I don't even know if I'd even recommend it because it's not the best of people there í ¾í´¦í ¼í¿¾*♀️ But I will say I was in and out and I believe I started in May and I received my certificate from the state in July. You could call them give it a try. It's week 8 now and I'm just waiting to hear back. I believe it's 10 to 12 weeks that emails will be sent out. Your plan is an excellent one. I'm getting older as the days go by, and I've been on this journey for so long. I completed an AA at Santa Monica college, and have applied to all the local Southern CA, Cal States, got accepted for non nursing majors, and I never went thinking I'd just get into a nursing program and be done in a timely fashion. Welp, that never happened. Next step for me will be LVN to RN. I'll probably take LVN at a technical college that I know I can start at anytime (Id just have to pay about 25k+), then do an LVN to RN program at a community college. And if I don't do LVN then I'll apply for a cal state again. Your path is a good one, just keep busy working towards your goals, your dreams, and your future ☺️ Let's keep each other posted. I'm going to call PCC today to ask a few questions about the TEAS exam. I've already taken it, but I just want to know when and where they'll have everyone else take it.

Any news yet? I'm just twiddling my thumbs here getting my micro class out of the way. My final is in about 2 weeks and then graduation day. I haven't heard anything yet. The El Monte/Rosemead adult school is accepting applications in July 17th so I'm going to try my luck there as well since they don't require CNA certification. I just heard that CSULA isn't accepting new students in the Winter, Spring, or Summer. So that means if I don't get into either program then I'll have to wait until Fall to get into CSULA and by that time it will be time to apply to LVN, and RN school again. I am in a sort of pickle. I didn't really want to be out of school this long, but a technical school is just out of the question for me financially right now. So, I guess it's all in God's hands right now.

Yessss GODS hands í ½í¹í ¼í¿½ Omg I'm so nervous. I've checked my email about a million times this year. I applied to LA County College of Nursing and Allied Heath, and I've been following those boards and some have already received emails last Friday , even my friend received an acceptance email. I didn't receive an acceptance or denial email. I'm just praying to God that I get in somewhere this year. I feel it though, I know I'm in somewhere. And yes, CSULA only admits for Fall for the BSN. But definitely apply and read the site for nursing because they have a separate application process. As soon as I hear something I'll let you know, and you do the same. Last year PCC emailed me June 9th to ask if I've completed the CNA course and if so send them proof by 6/16/16, so they could update my file, but I didn't finish till 6/30/16... by 7/9/16 I was selected as an alternate. And I think it was because of the CNA course that I was an alternate. I'm going to call this week to see if they're sending out emails this week. I know they are soooo tired of me lol. Is El Monte a community college? I'm looking for the cheapest route too. I could've completed a BSN program with West Cosast University if I was willing to dish out 140k plus. No way no how. I can't do it.

Any word yet? Nothing on my end. I finally finished my last semester at PCC and graduated last week. Unfortunately I got a C in microbiology which means it's looking like I'll never get into RN school. I was 1.3% away from a B and my professor did not curve it :( I've now gotten a C in all my classes (Anatomy, physiology, microbiology) I'm pretty bummed out, but I guess this just means that I'll have to go the LVN route for sure now. I'm trying not to let it affect me too much but I'd be lying if I said it didn't. I'm looking to get into the LVN program and the El Monte/Rosemead Adult school. I just need to take an Advanced Medical Terminology class before I can apply. The only problem is that I need to pay the $4,000 tuition up front once accepted and I just don't have that. Hopefully I can work out a payment plan with them or something. I feel like the light at the end of the tunnel is slowly fading out. This program only takes 15 students per term and the only offer the course once a year. Hopefully things work out. How's it going for you?

Omg this wait is TERRIBLE!!! I haven't heard anything, and the 12th week has passed. I called last week Friday and they told me the admin assistant has been out, and they are behind, but they will notify us within two weeks, but most likely this week. I'm like I can't take the wait. I wasn't accepted into LA County, I was a few points from the cutoff. I had all B's in my science classes and got ten bonus points for the teas (15 being the max,) but oh well. We can do this I haven't given up hope. If all else fails definitely continue to LVN, same goal different route. I'm so nervous though ugh!!! Oh did you get an email asking if you completed a CNA course? Last year I got one in early June. Cross your fingers that maybe they received less applicants and are looking over CNA I mean it's not even needed for RN... I know I've heard of them bending rules before... like last year the LVN students didn't even take the teas.
