Hey Guys I'm new here, my names Jessica

I am so glad I found this site everyone here seems so nice and supportive :redbeathe. Well I need some motivation!!!! I have 4 months left before I finish the program, I'm basically done, but I feel exhausted!!! I can't go on anymore , I'm tired and unmotivated. Partly because half my classmates have failed so I have no one to study with anymore I'm doing it all by myself and second because I'm only 20 (21 in september this year) and all my classmates are grown women they don't understand me. I still wanna be a kid and party and go clubbing but for 2 summers I have given that up and I get no credit. All my friends outside of school tell me come on lets go here and here but I always have to study, I wanna be the best nurse I can be. Then when I go to my clinical sites the patients don't respond to my care the same way they do to an older womans. I guess they think she knows more because she's older and thats what gets me the most, is that how the real worlds gunna be like no ones gunna hire me because of my age? And if they do the patients wont respond to me! :crying2: I'm frustrated, tired, and sad please help!!!

Congratulations on hanging in there!:balloons: To be your age and already a nurse is a great accomplishment! I know it's hard, but not partying with your friends now will benefit you for the rest of your life! It will be worth it in a couple years when you have a well paying job, and can support yourself, while they are barely making it.

As far as not being older like your classmates, just think about how much knowledge you will have acquired by the time you are their age. Show your patients how competent you are by being a highly knowledgable nurse. This will gain you the respect you deserve. Hang in there!:redbeathe

Wow I never saw it that way:heartbeat!!! By the time I'm they're age I'll most likely have a masters degree!!! Thanks that makes me feel like I'm not wasting my summers away and I know eventually I'll be making a difference. I try my best now to take care of my patients and I'll keep trying harder, hopefully one day it'll get easier! Thanks for the encouragement!!!:)

I never had the drive to go clubbing or partying. I wanted to become educated and actually make money, have stability, and make good choices for my life.

I 'party' like an adult. We get together on weekends at someone's house, have wine and sit around a fire pit and just let loose.

Your friends may enjoy their partying NOW, but when they are 25 with no education, working for min wage, maybe a few kids in tow due to their recklessness, you will be successful.

You are making GOOD choices. An education will bring you opportunities that your friends will not have here in the next few years.

There are ways to have fun without partying it up at clubs, but you may have to find different kinds of friends. Your age does not mean other women in the class cannot socialize with you, it may mean though that you have to make the first move-so to speak.

Hello Jessica. Im Hope. I have'nt started school yet ( Going May 2nd). I am 33, 3 kids, HUGE house payment, and currently working as a cashier making 8 dollars an hour. When I was your age, I partyed with my friends, stayed out late, did whatever I wonted to. I had so much fun. But, do you know what I have to show for it? I am 33, HUGE house payment, and make 8 dollars an hour. And the worst part is, because of my poor decisions, my kids are the ones who suffer. Sure, I can feed them. But when they want the lastest $80 shoes,or that new XBox, I have to tell them No. And I feel 2 inches tall. You should be proud of yourself for having the good sense to get an education now, when you are younger. I know it is hard watching your friends go out partying while you are stuck studying. But if you will hang in there, it will all be worth it. I, just as Im sure some of the older ladies in your class, wish so bad I could turn back time and not wait til now to get our education. Seeing the heartbreak on my kids face is a pain and humiliation I hope you will never have to feel. Hang in there.

Thank you so much for your encouraging words, that's the type of stuff I think about that give me motivation. I know my mom is your same situation, but I understand, don't feel 2 inches tall, I hope my mom didn't, I loved her even when she never bought me the latest fashion. That made me the hardworker I am today I started working at age 14 and she just encouraged me. I am proud of myself thanks, its taken a lot of will to not go party espcially being right next to chicago where theres always big events! good luck and thank you!

Hi Hope,

I'm Dawn...

I'm 45...and was a Real Estate Broker

was doing VERY well

and now I'm starting an LPN program in August!

I can't even get anyone to hire me for an $8 hour :(

I've managed offices, did real estate etc...

they think I'm over qualified UGGH...

I'm nervous as I'm OLD...

but I had to tell you my children are ungrateful

swine cause we never said No...or made them wait for things.

Now to hear NO as they are 15 and 19 is foreign to them.

So, If I could do it all again...tehy'd wait till birthdays or holidays orEARN things! :)

Just had to tell you, you are raising chldren that are learning to work hard and be appreciative, and that's not a bad thing.

So, from now on, when you say NO to their wants.... SMILE :)

wish someone told me...

Hi Dawn,

I am in the exact same boat as you are. I am 45, a Texas Real Estate Broker and cannot find a good job either. I am just now looking at LVN programs here in Austin. I really enjoy working with people and helping others. I also can't wait to start making "real" money again. My husband does well with his business, but I want to make my own money. I too have 2 teenagers...15 and 17, both boys and I know how $$$ they are...lol Hope to chat with you soon since we have so much in common. :)
