Job duty question

I am in LPN school with 4 months to go. I just got a job as a CNA on weekends to make some extra cash. Do CNA's do bolus feeds, do they dc foleys? I have never been a CNA. It may be tough for me not to use my learned skills. I am kind of nervous as I have been out of work for 8 months. Is 8-1 ratio a lot for a CNA? Thanks for you help.

In California,bolus feedingand D/C foleys are not allowed....Also 8-1, that is not bad since the RN does some of the work also..

In Oregon CNA's do not do bolus feedings but they do d/c foleys.

Just thought I'd add my two cents!

Wow 8:1 that's good the nursing home I worked for was 16:1 :lol2:

Those ladies had their hands full, literally. Well...as far as the bolus and

foleys go...no...you should not be doing them. I was taught to do those things in LPN school...but I have seen CNA's giving medication...and charting for nurses...you'd be surprised.

In VA cna's do not d/c foleys, or do bolus feeds that is out of their scope of practice.

8-1 is a dream job for a CNA. In the hospital it can be 16-1 (and sometimes worse on weekends), of course the acuity ranges from independent to total care, but sometimes those 16 pts are ALL total care. In the hospital our CNAs can d/c foleys, apply condom caths, do accuchecks and d/c heplocks, under the direction of a LPN or RN. Your duties will vary with the facility.
