How much does WIA pay toward your degree???

I am starting a Practical Nursing program on January 11 and I was just talking to my WIA counselor and he told me that WIA will only pay $10,000 toward your degree and I would be responsible for the rest. I was wondering if any of you that have WIA grants have heard anything different. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. :nurse:

You could possibly qualify but you need to contact your WIA agency BEFORE you enroll in your program (Here it is the unemployment office).

Thanks for the tip!

But, hmmm...I never work before so I dont know if I can still qualify for this unemployment grant? I guess I need to find the WIA agency near my area and ask for all this info b/c this program is very new to me!

You do not have to qualify for unemployment it is just throught the unemployment office here in La.

Thanks again for the reply!

I will be going down on Monday to make an appointment to get info about WIA funding. Any important questions I should ask?

This is a very old thread. Be nice to the WIA worker and be prepared to jump though hoops. Be enthusiastic and eager. I hope it works our for you. This program was a God-send for me! I'm now an LVN and wouldn't have been able to afford school without the program.

Aww thanks for the information! I will keep your pointers in mind:)

I was originally told there was no funding left in Jan (2012) so I went back to Community college. Then in Aug of same year they called me. I ended up having to start Lvn school immediately And started in Oct 2012.

Hope it works out for you!

Wow that's amazing how it all worked out for you. Are you in a bridge program? Thank you so much!!! :)

I graduated LVN school late last year. Recvd my license early this year. I work part time and attend college full time. This is no fun! )-: but it's my last semester of prereqs needed to apply to the RN program, so that motivates me.

I will probably apply to the bridge as soon as the application period opens. Too bad they now only take apps once per year so that will be 10 months from now!

Congratulations for making this far and staying motivated!!! :) that's the hardest step and your accomplishing it. Everything will be worth it. Do you know when most lvn-rn bridge programs in spring or fall only? The reason I ask is because I will be starting a lvn program in the fall and its one year july-july. Would that be after the deadline date?

My school was a for profit school that had 4 start dates per year. Most for profit schools have a least 2.

The community colleges have moved to 1 app period with 2 start dates per year.

All this varies per city, though!

Thanks for the information. I've been researching and saw most lvb-adn require prereqs. I've also read a few post of nurses doing prereqs while in lvn schools. I made a new post in 'general nurse' discussion asking if that's doable.
