How much did you study for the NCLEX-PN?

I'm taking my boards next week, and am a little overwhelmed with all the study materials available. When I review books like Saunders or Mosby's, I feel like I'm redoing all the stuff I already studied in Med/Surg or Pharmacology. So I've been doing questions in the books and on the CD-ROMs, and I've been doing okay, but I've heard from other people who've taken the test that a lot of it is pure critical thinking and common sense more than memorized information.

Did you study for weeks on end? Do you think it helped or it wouldn't have mattered? Or did you not study much at all, and felt you should have studied more or were glad you didn't study too much?

I am going to take the NCLEX on August 9th, and I am not quite sure if i am ready. I am doing the Saunders review book and ATI, and all the quizzes and exams I usally make 72-80%. I am just nervous, and I really dont want to pay the $200 to take it again!

I have been out of school since april of last year. to tell you honestly this nclex has put a full hold on my life within the past year ive been taking it. i failed about 3xs.. not embarrased to admit. it. i studied so much and I had blanked out.. dont know why. that was the last thing i wanted was to blank out. now im trying to ask help from anyone possibly.. anyone that i see studying for nursing. i just feel like quitting but i really love this field and i paid so much for this private school.. im so upset, angry and never realized what i tell myself until after i finish taking the exam which i think makes no sense.i studied a lot.. i have so many reveiwers.. i dont even know what to study from aneemore.:angryfire

I am not surprized that you have blanked out, and that you are not sure where to study from anymore. I did pass the first time with 85 questions, but I walked away disillusioned because most of the heavy subjects that school pounded in my head did not show up at all, such as insulin, diabetes, any endocrine questions, no women health, one cheap shot pediatric question, and had meds that I never saw before.

I think that if you walk in and sort of act like the test is like the computer CDs you studied from, and blanked out the surroundings, it may be better for you mentally. Let us know how you do.

I am following BalaSharks footsteps. I bumped my test up to Aug 27 from Aug 20. I am procrastinatng big time. I have done a few hundred questions in Saunders and that is it. But I have had my parents visiting from Florida, my 13 year old needs rides every day and my husband has had medical issues that prevent him from driving ever again. So i decided to keep Saunders in the truck so that I can do chapters while I am waiting at the train station, etc. I bought a cheap voice recorder and record my self reading then play the tapes while driving. Unique and probably not recommended by NCLEX, but what can you do but adapt?

That was probably wise. We each have to know what is best for us. I had to take sick time from my job to study and pass the boards. I just couldn't concentrate there with all of the noisy questions and distractions. Best wishes and keep us posted.

I graduated in May 24, 2006..My test is on August 14..So far, I have read Saunders and I am 25% done..I am also doing the CD questions, maybe 30 questions a day at the most..I know that I am lagging behind but it seems like I cannot get into the study mode..I will start picking up the pace in studying thou.

I studied for weeks, I did not kill myself on it though. If you remember your ABC's and can prioritise you should do fine. Be early to your test so you can get your jitters under control. Have some breakfast and try not to freak out before you get there. Also, your BON should have your results on their website withing 24 to 48 hrs. Dont pay a second party for the results. I found out I passed my NCLEX PN by 1400 the following day. Good luck!
