Feeling a little discouraged right now...........

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

I just came back from having lunch with 3 friends of mine and when I mentioned that I may decide to go into the LVN program next summer instead of the RN program their automatic response was "Do not waste your time in the LVN program! Go straight to RN" I don't have the grades to apply to the RN program this fall so I wasn't going to even try. I'm so discouraged right now................:crying2:

Don't let it get you down. There is nothing wrong with you going the LPN route first. My school requires us to earn the LPN first then bridge to the RN. Just do what is right for you and dont worry about what anyone else says.

People are always going to make comments that you should get your RN first. Don't let it get you down. I haven't taken any pre-reqs for RN yet, so it made sense for me to get my LPN first... if I had tried to get into an RN program, I would be taking 2 years of pre-reqs, and even then I wouldn't be guaranteed a spot into a program, because it's so competitve. Luckily my LPN program has the option to bridge to your RN after a year, so I'll more than likely be doing that. Many of the nurses I work with are doing it this way, and not one of them regrets becoming an LPN first.

It's like I tell my sister.... you have different friends that you "use" for different things... I have a go to girl for shopping and fashion, another who has a DH just like mine and we compare notes, another who is great for career advice... I love them all equally but I have learned to accept that I can't talk to JUST ONE for all my needs... obviously you need to find other friends who are more supportive about your school decisions and understand healthcare better ... there is nothing wrong with lpn - go for it! ;)

I too and doing LVN Before RN. I talked with some friends who were in the RN program at my school and I felt I just wasn't ready for RN. I fell that if I get my LVN then go after my RN, I will have more knowledge and wont feel so out of place once the instructors start slamming us with information. I see nothing wrong with doing LVN first. It also gives me the chance to see if I truly want to be an RN. Don't get me wrong, I WANT to be a nurse. Just not sure I want to go all the way to BSN or stop at RN or maybe even stop at LVN.

I've been feeling the same way.....I've decided to apply for LVN programs in the area and then bridge. I have heard that some of the LVN 2 RN bridge programs will take those who just finished the LVN program w/out having experience first. However, on the other hand, I have heard that many an RN has started their journey as an LVN and then bridged. In the long run, it is only YOU that can decide what is best for you. Think about what feels right for you, what you know will satisfy your needs. YOU are the ONLY ONE that has to live with the consequences of your decisions, not ANYONE ELSE!!!!!! I back you up 100%!!!!!! Hoo Aaaah!!!!! :D :up: just my :twocents:. I have pretty decent grades, but not quite good enough, just on the borderline really to get into any RN program. This is what I want to do. I can't let others decide where I go on my journey for it is my journey alone. :rolleyes:
