I recently decided to go to LPN school because I was attending college to get my BSN but I had some personal problems that reflected my grades this past semester and as a result my chances of getting into the nursing program at the university I was going to are nearly impossible. I decied to take this semester off to get my CNA training next month so that I could at least work in the nursing field. I am going to apply for the LPN program so that I can ,if accepted, start in the fall. But I am very worried that my GPA at the college I previously attened will affect my acceptance into the LPN program. I attened the my previous college for 3 regular semesters and took two courses this past summer. My first two semesters and during the summer I maintained a 2.5 but this past semesters grades brought my GPA down to a 1.75. If I were to conitinue I would have to retake most of the courses I took this past semester and continue try to get my GPA up to a 3.0 by the time I applied for the nursing program. I spoke with my advisor who didn't say aloud, but implied, that it would probably be nearly impossible for me to get into the upper division of the BSN program. Anyway, I am very worried that my previous college work will affect my chances of getting into the LPN program because the application ask for your high school transcript and a transcript of the colleges in which you attended. I'm not worried about my high school transcript because I had a 3.5 after high school graduation. My college transcript however is awful. Does anyone have any advice of what I could do or if there's any chance I could get into the program?

I would say that retaking the classes that you had the lowest GPAs in would probably be the best thing you could do to bump up your GPA. I'm sorry you are having to deal with this!!

Thanks for your help and thanks to the person who private messaged me. I plan on hopefully getting my LPN then going into a bridge program once I've worked as an LPN for a little while. I just really hope that I have a chance of getting into the LPN program here. I'm also very excited about starting CNA training next month and can't wait to start.

I attended a private LPN/LVN program at a for-profit trade school that didn't pay any attention to previous college coursework when admitting applicants. As long as students could pass the minimally difficult entrance exam and had the tuition money or some type of financial aid that could pay for the program, they got admitted. Perhaps this route might pique your interest.
