I'm going into the LPN program this spring and I was wondering since most LPNs' work in nursing homes are clinicals done only in the nursing home or in hospitals also?

Thanks for your help.:nurse:

For the LPN program that I'm currently in, we have had clinicals in both nursing homes and hospitals.

We are doing them, in hospitals, nursing homes, childrens homes, headstart, wound clinics, and Dr. office... So far we have only done the hospitals, start Nursing home next week, will be back at hospital in Feb. Not sure what we will be doing at the headstart, but that isn't until late spring...

Well as for me I had to go to a nursing home for 48hrs, now when i get back from break we will be going to a Hospital until we graduate.

my lpn program uses acute hospitals, a pediatric hospital, as well as ltc facilities, and we're assigned in pretty small groups to our clinical sites so there's no crowding. 1st quarter clinicals are all in ltc, but we rotate after that. you should just ask the program coordinator what sites your school use.

In my program we started out for a few weeks in a LTC facility, but the rest of the year will be in hospitals. For med surg we're at a rehab hospital, the VA, and another small hospital but then our peds, ob/gyn, and psych rotations are at other hospitals. In my state though, pretty much all hospitals hire LPN's on all floors just as RN's so that probably has a bit to do with it. I'm really glad because I plan to go straight into the RN program and I would hate to have not had any hospital experience going in.

in my program we first did ltc facilities, then rotations through dr. offices(both peds and adult), home health, hospice, deep wound care offices, psych facilities(both peds and adult), and hosp(3 major hosp). In the hosp we were rotated through every dept.

Like the above response from april&em in my state (Louisiana) lpns are hired just as rn's are.
