Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

I'll will start by saying that I shouldn't be here typing this because I am bombarded with homework.

My first day went great. We went over all the class rules and the syllabi. I had to register along with about 15 other students that were supposed to start in May like myself instead of January. Registration went good. I got my books. Wow there are so many books. We didn't get our skills bags yet because the school ran out. They put a rush order on them and they were supposed to be there today but they still didn't come in so we are still without skills bags. Last night we had to read chapters 1 &3 in A&P and chapter 11 in our skills book. We also had to define 21 terms.

Today the instructors lectured over chapters 1&3 in A&P and chapter 11 from our nursing fundamentals book. We learned how to take a temp rectally. For homework we have to read chapter 4 in A&P and define 22 terms. Our instructor told us to make sure we know chapters 1&3 so I'm assuming that there is going to be a quiz tomorrow. We have our first test on Monday which will cover the first chapter of our medical terminology book. The instuctors told us to start learning conversions and to start brushing up on our math. We are to have a basic math test soon. I'm sure I'm leaving something out but I have to go. Homework is calling me.

Welcome to nursing school...hang in there - it does get better/easier. They told us when we started to say goodbye to our families and we'd see them in 11 weeks (we are on 11 week quarters) - they weren't joking. I'm in my 38th week and I actually get to see my family a couple of times a week now. Take a deep breath and dive in - it's overwhelming at first - but what a wonderful experience!

Do your best and PLEASE try not to fall behind. As an experience....is really bad.

CONGRATS on having a teacher who is organized. It should make things way easier for you.

My teacher...doesnt even know what week we are in.

Well, the third and fourth days are finished. We have had 6 grades so far in A&P and 1 test and 1 daily grade in fundamentals. So far I've done good on the quizes. I think I did good on the test today but won't know until tomorrow. Tonight I have to read 1 chapter in fundamentals and 1 chapter in A&P and do terms for both subjects. I have an A&P test and a medical terminology test on Monday. Everything is so fast paced but is doable as long as you are good with time management. I'm so loving learning about nursing skills. A&P is never fun but it's necessary and my instructor puts everything in lamens terms so it makes everything so much easier. Well I'm off to study.

I hope my first week experience is as good as yours. It sounds like you are in a well organized program, so you will continue to do good throughout the school year. What is nursing fundamentals about, that is on my program syllabi as well. :p

we didnt get our medical terms until...may be 3 months after we started the program.

It took like 4 months to try and survive to become 15 student class as we are now. however we were left without knowing anything. A&P....for my classmates was something to act like "whatever" because the teacher didnt even covered 4 systems!!!! Im sooo proud of you!

and try to make A&P as enjoyful as you can.

It really isnt a pain. I wasnt affected by my teacher not teaching ANYTHING AT ALL of A&P because i took anatomy and physiology as a pre-req in a community college. :yeah: do your best!

I'm proud of you also ! Keep up the great work.

Well I got my test back today and I made a 90. I'm proud of that grade of'course I wish it were higher. Monday we have 3 tests. One in medical terminology, one in nursing fundamentals, and one in A&P. Today I noticed that some of the techs have started acting like they know it all. Our instructor told them to forget everything that they know because it's probably wrong. Tonight I'm going over one of my fellow nursing student's house to study. There is so much to learn. What keeps me going is one of my instructors. She talks a lot about her nursing experiences. That is what I am so looking forward to. I want to be as passionate about nursing as she is. I will get through this program. Nursing is my dream and come December I will be pinned.
