Take downs in a mental health facility means that when a pt shows inappropriate behavior (usually risk to self and or others) and other alternative measures do not work, the last resort available is to "take down" or swarm the patient. A swarm of people take control of the person and either put him/her in a special room, administer restraings, or admin cocktail of meds to adjust the inappropriate behavior. Obviously, the pt must be constantly monitored, offered food/water, and reevaluated. The state in which you practice will regulate this procedure.
In my neck of the woods, we refer to take-downs at psychiatric facilities as "therapeutic holds," as this sounds more politically correct.I was doing my daily job search and came across one job which had this specific duty in the list of duties which the job entails:"Participate in take-downs of violent patients"

I have heard of restraining a patient and understand what that means. Is this the same thing?
Also, I am planning on having a baby sometime this year. If employed at this job, can I refuse from particiating if I were pregnant?
Thanks in advance!
