Tennessee/California LVN's

Nurses LPN/LVN

What schools (private or community college) offer LVN-RN bridge programs in Tennessee that accepts a 2.7 GPA with a repeat and a (W) in Anatomy class? I know the repeat policy in the science classes are strict in California.

Look into TSU in Nashville. It's a little known program in downtown Nashville. Put LPN-RN program into their Search on their website, it is hard to find, but will come up. I think a 2.7 is ok but you will have to check. I don't think they will care about your W as long as you repeated it and did a "C" or better. You have to take the Hesi exam. You need to score at least an 80 in the math and a 78 in the reading section. They don't care what you score in anything else. Just pass those 2 sections, although I think passing well would be a plus. They admit twice a year. You also need Micro and a Psych and you need to go for an informal interview and someone will look over your transcripts and let you know if your grades are ok and if you need any pre-req's. That's it!

Oh sorry, I think it is the other way around. You need to score 80 in the reading section for the Hesi and 78 in the math!

Thank you!!! Did you attend TSU? If so, how was the acceptance process? Do you know the average gpa from previous students? Is there a greater chance of acceptance if you score 90% above on hesi? Sorry for the many questions. Lol. I will definetly look up the school online. It's always nice to talk to previous students and get some insight as well. :) I have not taken psych or any sciences and wonder if they accept ROPD online anat/micro, etc classes? I know that southwest community college and a few other TN schools do.

Laslty, how is the job market in TN?

No, I didn't attend. I am in the process of thinking about it. I think if you did well on the Hesi, that looks good but you have to do well on those 2 sections I mentioned or you have to retake it, no exceptions! I think the acceptance rate is a little lower but not sure what it is. You will have to do those pre-reqs before applying but the info is on the site. Not sure about the ROPD classes. I live rurally in TN so you have to travel about 30 min. for a job. Should be better in Nashville, I would think!

Thank you @pandapack. Please keep me posted if you decide to apply for TSU. I have family in Memphis which is somewhere near Nashville. Have you completed your prereqs and if so where?

Honestly you should take some extra classes to bring up that GPA. Because the reality is, and I'm not trying to be mean but honest, is that is going to hurt you terribly. I see you are from the IE so for some perspective the lowest GPA in the new class at Cal State SB this fall was a 3.89, and they told their prenursing majors that is their total GPA was less than a 3.5 to find a new major and realistically it needed to be above a 3.75. Cumulative not just nursing. And that is not a CSUSB issue that's a California issue and I would suspect its probably pretty similar in other places. I dunno what private schools are like, maybe less but I would still do whatever you can to pull that to a 3.0. Again I apologize if this sounds harsh but I feel like people need to know how truly competitive it is out there and go with their eyes wide open. Best of luck to you!

@nightcrow

Thank you for responding to my post. I did have a 2.5gpa and bumped it up to a 2.7gpa due to good grades on intro chem and college english. I have a (d+) in college math on my transcripts that I took yrs ago. I do feel like my math grade has pulled my gpa down and plan to retake the class. Also, I'm willing to relocate outside of ca because the schools are extremely competitive.I will follow your advice on taking it one step at a time to bring my gpa up to atleast a 3.0. Thanks :)

I know of a school with an LPN-to-ASN bridge program that is neither in California nor in Tennessee, but will admit LPNs without regard to GPA or prerequisite coursework. You can send me a private message if you want to know more.

The Commuter - could you private email me about the above school please. Not sure how to private email you yet on this site. I tried! :(

Thanks! [email protected] :)

I have all my pre-reqs Tasha - I've done them a couple times over the years through a couple of Bachelors degrees and a Masters. I've always been in the Health care field even while in school. I'm trying to add the LPN to one of my Bachelors one day to make it a BSN. I'm sort of working backwards! (or forwards!) :)

TheCommuterWow, thank you!!! I will send you a pm.
