hello!

i have a job interview in two days for an LVN position in a family medicine clinic. i was just wondering what kind of questions they might ask me? any advice? since they know that im an RN do u guys think they will ask me if i will be actively seeking for an RN job? if so, any advice on how to answer that kind of question?

i would ask why you are willing to work at a lvn job and wage, would wonder when you might run for a RN POSITION OPORTUNITY ???????? WHAT IS YOUR ANSWER.........how do you seriously plan on answering that question? :sneaky:

My answer would depend on the answer to the question sally asked. Historically, RNs have often worked in clinics and doctor's offices. Right now in my state, all nursing jobs are so tight that it is not unusual for an RN to apply for LVN jobs. The other day I saw an ad for Home Health Aide that stated that they would be willing to hire new grad RNs so they can "get experience". They won't get the type of experience that hospitals are looking for. It's a sign of the times (bad ones) for nursing job seekers.

i havent figured out how to answer that question thats why i was hoping someone could help me out and give me some advice. im in LA right now and it's really tough for new grads to find a job out here. i graduated last june and it is really frustrating that i still cant find a job, im desperate and im willing to work as an lvn right now rather than do nothing. and besides new grad rns make about 30/hr and this job will pay me 25/hr (if i get hired) so its not so bad.

Then I would focus less on the fact that you aren't an LVN and more on selling yourself for the job itself. Generally, a Family Practice clinic is looking for someone who has an engaging personality that is able to relate to people from babies to geriatrics, able to get along well with co-workers in an environment that is is close-knit, who is confident and effective at telephone triage and effective patient education.

The ability to prioritize and multi-task is important in a clinic just as in a hospital. Because your workforce is smaller, efficiency is really important to how everyone else's day progresses as you will discover if the doc gets behind schedule because of lack of same. You can usually discern pretty quickly what type of provider or clinic you are interviewing for. Some are warm and fuzzy (read: slow) and some are very brisk and no-nonsense (read: fast) so you can pick up cues on what you want to emphasize about yourself that will make them want to hire you.

In my experience, you'll need to have a strong base in "wellness care" or preventive medicine and the accompanying procedures, how often and at what age they should commence, so I would review those for each age group including the immunization schedule for children. Some clinics do everything within their walls and some refer out for things like labs, diagnostic radiology, colonoscopy, etc. Try to find out the focus of your particular Family Practice clinic ahead of time and tailor your comments to reflect the knowledge base they are looking for.

I hope you don't view this as a step down because you can't find anything else. Most FPs are in this because they genuinely enjoy treating the whole family "holistically" and personally, I loved it. Best wishes to you.

oh i definitely dont view it as a step down. right now i just want to work and gain experience whether its an RN or LVN job its still experience that will help me in the future. working in a family medicine clinic as an RN is kinda like my dream job. but i plan on getting a few years of med surg experience under my belt first. i was hoping that if i get hired as an lvn and work hard they might offer me an RN position in the future. anyways, thanks for ur advice!!!

you would not be "working as a LVN " you would be working as a RN in a LVN positoon.

I am also a new grad RN graduated in last June and did not find a RN job. I am going for LVN position in school setting. Should I tell them that I have RN license? As per BRN website we can work as LVN or CNA since we have more education. two months ago I attended an interview in that i mentioned that I am RN and they did not hired me. I want to work and have some experience and need to earn some thing

You cannot lie about what license you have. They will ask. It is very easy to check (which all responsible employers do) and you won't get the job once they know you are lying.
