Hi everyone!

Recent new grad in the So Cal area. I am starting the process of applying for jobs and was hoping someone could help me out with a few questions.

Okay, here they are...

1. Do you include clinical rotations on your resume? Our school job adviser told us to list our clinical sites but in the contact details to just list the school phone number and our clinical teacher as supervisor? Something about this just seems kinda off.

2. I have 1 year of per-diem psych experience as a CNA/mental health worker. The rest of my work experience is made up of me owning my own business (which I closed to go to nursing school) and about 10 years of administrative work. Should I leave all this off my resume since it has nothing to do with nursing and just add it to my application only to explain any gaps? FYI with my past work history and now clinical experience my resume is at a full two pages which I know is a no-no.

3. When filling out those LOOOOONG hospital applications what do you put in for salary requests? Many of them wont allow you to leave blank. They require an actual dollar amount.

4. I have letters of reccommentdation from both my clinical teacher and my current work supervisor. Should I include these with my resume and cover letter if they allow for uploads or should I save them for the interview?

5. Lastly, is it over kill to apply for more then one position with the same company. For example, They have jobs listed according to shift, 7-3, 3-11, 11-7 so that's 3 different jobs and that's not even mentioning the different departments or locations. One hospital alone I saw 12 jobs I could have applied for. So my question is, If I apply for one, do you think they would consider me for all the other shifts and maybe even departments?

Sorry if this was long. Thanks in advance for your input :)

1. I didn't put my clinical experience down. All the people that will interview you will know you had clinical rotations.

2. I would put the CNA work but leave off the rest. It shows you have previous healthcare experience.

3. If it will let you, put negotiable. Or what you know as of the starting pay.

4. If you have a cover letter & other things to upload (if it's online) then sure, add with it.

5. No, it's not over kill to apply for more than one position or shift with the same company.

Good luck!

In regards to clinical hours, I just put "over x hours of clinical experience in both skilled nursing setting and hospital setting". Try googling the average salaries of starting lpn's in your area and start off with that. And always apply for multiple jobs within the same hospital or same healthcare system. It shows that you want a job and are determined. Also, I recommend following up at least a week later and every week or so thereafter. Good luck!
