Hi!!

I am a LVN in California moving to New York. I am looking for advice/info on getting my license there. Also, any LVN in New York with advice on certificates and such. I am IV certified in CA, but I have heard NY is different with IV laws, i.e my emt dad there can not start them. I keep reading about NPI number? Thank you!!

What area of NY? NYC? Suburbs? Upstate? Im upstate in Dutchess County! In most non rural areas of NY LPNs work exclusivically in LTC, Sub acute, Rehab and MD offices. Not a whole lot of acute care they are out there for us LPNs in NY. LPNs scope of practice is NY limits what we can do with starting IVs and pushing drugs through the IV, PICCs, Blood transfusions, Care plan initiation not sure what you certifications will allow you to do more if anything extra, you probably wont see it and have to differ to the RN on duty.

O and as far as getting your license heres the website

I'm moving to Rochester. In CA we primarily work in the same settings. I currently work as an IV nurse at a physician's office, So my experience pertains to starting and maintaining IV lines. Just hoping that experience will help me find something there!

But Thank YOU!

Honestly I have know idea about Rochester might want to ask in the NY part of this forum.

Hello,

I see this post is old but I am hoping you will receive this.

I am very interested in relocating to Rochester as well, from Los Angeles. I read that it is one of the best places to live for single mothers based on the cost of living, public school systems, etc.

I would love to get a little feedback about your move. Was it a good move? How do you find the environment and people of Rochester. Any feedback at all would be appreciated!

Thank you for your time!!

The snow will likely be the biggest shock for you! Haha! I'm not in the Rochester area, so I can't really comment about the city itself, but I do like perusing the citydata website. It is a website where you can read/discuss about specific cities and get some great answers and data back, usually from residents.

I will comment that some of Upstate New York has the prettiest country sides I've seen; lovely rolling hills with lakes dotted between. Upstate is nice in the warmer months, but winter is loooong and can sometimes be pretty brutal. I will mention (and I mean no disrespect), my bus trip through Niagara, Buffalo, and Rochester - Rochester seemed the 'nicest' looking. I have entertained the idea of relocating there, too. But I have family in Canada, so Syracuse is closer.
