LPN to RN how much time to do it??

How long are your credits good for if you are an LPN and want to become an RN. Also, what if you have a degree with the RN prerequisites, does that secure the credits or does it not make a difference? Im a little confused if you took the prereq such and such a year but finished (graduated or whatever)later, do the base the time on when you took the class or when you finished school. I hope this isnt confusing three questions. Please help. Im a new LPN and want to be an RN but am going to work first.

I think it really depends on the school you go to. I know my friend was able to use her credits that were more than 10yrs old. I'm really hoping mine will not be an issue because some are 12yrs old :eek:

AFA doing an LPN to RN bridge, in my area you only have 5yrs from the time you get your LPN to do the bridging program, otherwise you have to take a bunch of other classes :down:

That would be great if it were 10 yrs but I prob wont wait that long. So 5 yrs from the time you get LPN isnt so bad for me. What is AFA? I think if i had to take those classes over (alot of them) I wouldnt bother. I think ill attempt in in a year or so. I just hate the thought of not having a life again.

This is something that really varies with each school. I looked into it a while ago and found out that I would have to repeat all of my science courses because it has been more than 10 years. I chose not to bother due to my age (51) and health. I have a chronic illness that is quiet now, but could flare at any time. I started out going to RN school and made it pretty far. I only had nine months to go, but failed a med-surg class. I didn't know it then, but that was the beginning of my illness. I was exhausted from keeping up with everything. I did transfer to get my LPN, but at times I wish that I would not have let all of that time go by. I had five years to re-enter the same rn program. And there was a 10 yr. limit on all of the science courses. I can remember how stressing rn school was. So, I decided for me, there was too much against me. I was afraid that I may make it so far again and have a flare-up. If your goal is to be RN, don't let too much time go by, or you may have to repeat all of it all over again.

They counted the time that I took the course. And, the only adavncement for being an LPN was one semester off.
