Hi im an lvn i have an iv/blood certification. I was wondering if anyone can help me with a job application question. If in an application it asks if im phlebotomy certified, can i put "yes" if im iv/blood withdrawal certified???? Im kind of confuse with that. If anyone can help i would appreciate it alot. Im from california.

Blood withdrawal = phlebotomy

Thank you!!! just trying to make sure before i put yes.

Have you taken the national certification for phlebotomy?

Specializes in Vascular Access.

Phlebotomy certification means that you have taken a test and passed a curriculum intended for a phlebotomist. Most nurses haven't received this "certification" but rather received training on drawing blood in their curriculum for nursing, or in an IV certification course.

No, i have not taken the phlebotomy course. I just took the iv/blood certification class which was a three day class. Just that alot of these hospital applications ask if you are phlebotomy certified.

"IVRUS" So in your opinion I shouldnt put yes for that question?

In CA, phlebotomy is a separate license/certificate. Ask HR if your IV/blood withdrawal meets their requirements.

I would NOT put yes but if they have a

section where you list other certification or awards, definitely list your iv\blood cert

I'm from California and yes it means the same thing in the context of nursing practice related to the LVN in CA. Just a bad choice of words on their part. Our certification for IVs covers blood withdrawal. It's a two in one certification in CA for LVNs.

Thanks!! Yea plus theres i spot for certifications so they should see just the iv/blood certification.😀

I worked as a phlebotomist for 7 years and cant say I'm "certified" because I never took the exam. I think California is the only state that requires a phlebotomy certificate to practice phlebotomy.
