Throughout my research ivee seen people say there are no LPN jobs. If i may ask what does a Primary Nurse Do ??
If i succeed i would Love to become a RN. I have seen Nurses with Horrible attitudes , i would not become one of them.
In my hospital (it differs place to place) the primary nurse is the person taking full care of the patient and signing documents like consent to surgery, blood transfusion, or even the few times I've witnessed for a change to DNR status. The primary nurse performs the majority of nursing specific tasks and reports directly to the MD/DO for change in status. As an LPN, I must have the pt initially assessed by the RN (ie: alive, breathing, acuity level) and then I perform all ongoing assessments/data collection.
I perform blood transfusions, access ports, start and maintain IVs, perform most IVP medication, and take VS! I am a nurse first and foremost when I am a Prinary Nurse.
My other duty is a float nurse. I just float and act as a supplemental member of the team doing everything from janitorial work-secretary-paramedic-RN work. Whatever needs to be done.
