How many LPNs IV cert.

I am from NY and in nursing school they didnt even teach you how to draw blood.....more less how to do IV's..they claim it is on the job training. Luckily I started out at a Trauma 1 county hospital and got to float for 2 weeks with the IV team.

The Lpn program I graduated from didn't teaching anything on IVs or blood draws. I went to this continuing education company for nurses and took a class to get IV Certified. When I worked in the NH, I only had 1 IV medication in like 4 months time.

My LPN school did not certify us either. I am IV certified and I have phlebotomy training because my first employer offered the course and there were preceptors there to sign off on my successful sticks and starts. I actually used my training rather frequently at my old job which was subacute LTC, but I doubt I will use my skills at all at my new position. :crying2: I am a full time student working on a dual bachelor program and I have three and a half children at home so this laid back environment is exactly where I need to be right now.

We were IV certified in LPN school and practiced one afternoon on a dummy arm. I never got to do an actual IV on an human. When I start a new job, I show them my certification, but tell them I would be more comfortable doing several IV's on real pts. with supervision before I'm expected to do them alone. So as you can guess haven't got to do one yet. I would love to do IV's, but don't think we should be certified until we do at least 1-2 with supervision.

I had to have three successful supervised starts and stops and three successful supervised blood draws. I love phlebotomy! IVs are ok...

My LTC facility paid for all the nurse's (RN and LPN)to become certified. And yes I have used it a lot in LTC and in home health!!

for my IV cert--- I had to do a rotation in OR from 7am till 12pm starting and stopping IV's all day long--- plus we got to take a lot out and some people got to start them in clincals--- all supervised--in ohio by 2008 ALL LPNS must be IV cert- my school is one of the first to put it into the testing and sylibi---

my employer sends any lpn that wants to get certification almost all 3-11 lpns have now. 7-3 too much politics!!!! I start almost all IVs since on days most RNs are in offices don't come out on the floor unless forced. silly but true but Im in LTC could be the difference, but I like starting IVs it helps my residents get better or hydrated. Others LPNs on days will not get certified they say they are so busy(true!) that they wouldn't want one more job but I came from 3-11 just recently.
