Hospice Nursing for LPNs

i just read a thread that mentioned they worked as a hospice nurse. Can LPNs work in hospice? What do they do ? How can i find which states offer this?? i would love to do this...if it is possible.

Do home health care and hospice hire new grads? I know you cant answer for the whole industry,,just curious how many people went straight from school to hh/hospice. Thanks

if you do hospice nursing, get the hospice cert, my friend got an extra 5 dollars per visit cause of the certification due to the fact that they can charge the client sub acute rate.

I worked hospice a while back. One year's work experience was required. The manager on the unit also had a personal preference not to hire anyone who had a family member die within the last six months. Felt the grieving process wasn't over. Nobody ever complained or grieved that "unwritten" rule.

I am doing my preceptorship as an LPN in a hospice facility in Canada, in BC, on Vancouver Island. LPN's are part of the whole team. I am currently on practicum in acute care on a surgical ward - EENT, urology and plastics. On Monday I start 2 weeks in Medical GI. My precept. starts after that. I am nervous, excited and scared. I feel it is an honour to be with someone when they die and to help the family. I just hope I am up for the task. I was hand selected and it was unanimous by my instructors for this placement.

I'm sure it can be done part time. One of the agencies I work for offered me a position in hospice home health. The location was inconvienent for me, so, I declined. If they offered another one in my area, I would certainly consider it. I told my agency I am only available on weekends, and it didn't seem to be a problem to them.

In Ohio, some hospice providers hire LPNs, some don't. You'll have do some research on the hospice providers in your area. GL.

Also, here in Ohio hospice will generally require a year + experience as an LPN to be considered.
