decision on a new position...Thoughts???

I have been a Nurse for One year and have been fortunate to find a full time position. The issue is its a long day 10 hour work nad tack on 90 minutes to an from work via the train (God Bless the train its such a nice way to commute). However fast forward three months later I have been apporached by another great company who found my resume and want to meet with me.

I have horrible guilt after being at my present position for three months and all the time and energy and $ they have put into me for training. It is interesting but the staff of MDs are very very arrrogant (not my first rodeo and I havent EVER dealt with this much ego) and more importantly the commute is so long I have no time during the week with my kids.

This new job is 10 minutes from my house and if all looks as it seems the staff is friendly and work well as a team. And its a little more $$

I feel like a failure giving up on this present job and feel like its a black eye on my resume..which I dont think I will use it anyways.

Its my work ethic kicking me thats worse than anything...Thoughts??

Did you already interview for the position and they want to hire you? Per your post it implies that you have already interviewed for the position.

If not, ask questions, be able to talk to the employees and then make a decision.

If it's close to home and is benefitting financially, then what is the issue? Don't give notice to your other job until you have accepted the offer; be professional about it, and move on to what works for you and your career.

Fundamentally, this is about what's best for you and you owe your present employer nothing besides an honest days work and notice of intent to leave.

Do recognize that it will be a black mark and you likely be ineligible for rehire. Do what's best for you.

Thanks Ladyfree..I have a difficult time thinking about what to say to my present employer..It can be a difficult conversation to have I am sure you can see my point.

I do recognize it being a black mark and I also thought of this..during the 90 day trial period (where I am currently in)if the Company let me go for some reason... thats not an issue..only if roles are reversed its a black mark...:barf02:

Thats the hardest part because this has never happened to me.. It seems abit unfair as well because my blackmark due to a better position vs the company letting me go during a 90 day trial period is OK?? hmm...

The 90 day period is a "probationary" period; it does go both ways.

Again, you have to what's best for you and your career; why take stock in a possible "black mark" during a probationary period if your plan is to be somewhere closer and it works out for you?

The shortest I have ever worked was three shifts for an agency; I didn't like the placement; the state can in for a surprise visit on my last shift and that was the final straw. Never applied for that particular facility nor went back to that agency, and have looked and looked for jobs afterwards; never looked back on those particular places. :no:

It's only a black mark (a) for the place you're leaving, and (b) if you do it again in the next 2 or 3 years.
