Our facility (SELH) is reallocating many positions (nursing and otherwise) to "community" positions to avoid layoffs and save megabucks. Some nurses will be reassigned to vacant positions or their positions will be transferred into the community settings. They are asking for volunteers as well. Best of luck to all of you who may be affected by the cuts.
Hi,
I'm a reporter with the Daily Advertiser in Lafayette, La. I'm trying to interview nurses
recently laid off from LSU's University Medical Center for an article.
The reason for the article is to give a human face to the people who were laid off, find out what they're doing now, what their prospects are for staying in town, and in general just what they are going through.
If you can help, please call me at (337) 289-6481 or e-mail to [email protected]. I need this as soon as possible!
Thanks,
Beverly Corbel
I have been an LPN for 20 years and worked in virtually every area including critical care, administration, ER and in an office for a while. My hospital of 110 beds had financial trouble the employees were unaware of and I was layed off in March along with 40 others, most of whom had many years experience. They did not offer us any other job. My position as charge analyst/chart review for the ER was eliminated. There is no one doing this job now. The CEO was recently asked to resign, along with the COO. The CFO is still there but is probably on his way out as well. There are such nursing staff shortages they are hold 10-15 patients a day in the ER, not b/c they don't have the beds, but b/c they don't have the nurses to care for them. The physicians are furious but powerless to do anything. My husband is the director of the pharmacy there and extremely disturbed by all this as well and worried. He is short staffed by one pharmacist and one assistant and has been for over a year. The stock has dropped to 4.43 a share. I have tried everything to find a job but there is nothing as everyone seems to be in the same boat. We can't move as we have a house, kids, etc and have lived here all my life. I have never seen things this bad for the healthcare industry here. My unemployment will run out in 2 months. I don't know what to do. I am considering just taking a waitressing job or something to have any kind of income. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have reapplied at the hospital and at doctors offices several times with no results. I have tried the internet and nursing homes, but nothing. I can't understand how a nurse with 20 years experience can't find a job! It's crazy.
