Lady of the Lake Accelerated ASN

U.S.A. Louisiana

Published

Hi. I am very interested in the accelerated ASN program at Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge. Can anyone give me any information on this program? I've seen the information that is available online. However, I am looking for information from experienced insiders such as: getting accepted, true level of difficulty, etc. This will be a major career change for me, and I do not want to make a bad decision. I have a 3.6 gpa from SLU w/ AA in OSH and BA in Gen Studies. I consider myself a capable, hard working student but all I have heard is HORROR stories.

Thanks!

Awesome! Well I guess you are getting a head start on anything that we learn involving the respiratory system!

Lol, I just wanna pass and become a RN.

I'm going to a CPR class tomorrow. I'm not sure if my CPR card will be in before the 15th when the health packet is due. I think I will just turn everything else in and let them know that's all I will be missing.

Orientation is almost here :o:up:

Get whatever facility you're at to fill out and sign something saying you passed. My school accepted that.

Hi everyone! Congratulations to everyone who have been accepted to the accelerated program. It's been a while! I was just skimming through some of the comments, and I saw that Fumanchuesday got to talk to someone who currently goes to OLOL at EJGH.

I am in the program now, and I just wanted to give everyone some info from my perspective to help calm some of your nerves. I think I mentioned this a few posts back, but approximately 40 people were accepted into the program. About 35 people showed up to the first class. We are in our last class, and we have about 25 people left. Out of those 25, we picked about 4 people up throughout the program from the previous Tulane classes.

We lost the most people in Pharmacology, but Pharmacology is your easiest class! Each class is harder than the first. Pharmacology is easier than the other classes because the tested material is straight from your notes. Memorize, think a little during the test, and you will do fine in pharm. If you want an "A," this is your class to do it in!

It is not impossible to make A's in this program. It is, however, quite difficult to make straight A's. No one has straight A's in my class, but there are plenty of people who have made A's in various classes throughout the program.

Yes, we've lost a lot of people, but that does not mean that they are lazy, did not study, or did not commit themselves. This program is extremely difficult and requires a lot of commitment. Some people will do exceptional in one class and struggle in another class. This has happened to everyone in my class, and has definitely happened to me. This is because we have a different teacher for just about every class, and some people just don't click with the way that some instructors teach/test. We have had a test, litterally, every week since the program started. If you mess up on one test, it is VERY hard to rebound because the passing score is an 80.

Since you guys are the last class, I don't know how things are going to be like for you. Because of budget cuts, you guys will not have some of the teachers that I've had. I don't necessary think that classes will be easier for you because the teachers are here to make sure that you understand the material and be competent nurses.

If you guys have any questions, private message me. I may not be back on here until August because I am finishing up this last class, but I will definitely try to answer your questions as honestly as possible. I'll be on campus the day you have orientation, so maybe I'll get to meet some of you! Enjoy the rest of your summer before school starts!

Wow, what a relief! Thank you so much for your input and congratulations on making ot to the last month of the program!

Does anyone know if we are supposed to dress a particular way for orientation? I'm assuming it's casual.

Too funny, I was going to ask the same question, I even called and left a message about the dress attire, I guess we think a like, LOL

They just called me, no dress code, just be appropriate, no short shorts, tank tops that are too revealing. Jeans are okay

I wore a nice shirt and jeans for my orientation. Make sure you wear a nice shirt because you're going to be taking your ID picture at orientation.

I'm so excited that orientation is tomorrow. I was also wondering about what attire should we wear. I'll wear a nice shirt and some jeans. I'm about to go to my CPR class at 7.

I'm a little nervous about tomorrow (not a scared nervousness but like your 1st day of highschool kind of nervousness). I guess it will be a little easier for us since we've been talking to each other on here. Maybe we can all go to orientation a little earlier than the time it starts,so we can introduce ourselves in person. *Just wishful thinking

One more question:

Do we have to bring anything w/ us to orientation?
