Lady of the Lake Accelerated ASN

U.S.A. Louisiana

Published

Hi. I am very interested in the accelerated ASN program at Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge. Can anyone give me any information on this program? I've seen the information that is available online. However, I am looking for information from experienced insiders such as: getting accepted, true level of difficulty, etc. This will be a major career change for me, and I do not want to make a bad decision. I have a 3.6 gpa from SLU w/ AA in OSH and BA in Gen Studies. I consider myself a capable, hard working student but all I have heard is HORROR stories.

Thanks!

OK, so I called him and he is supposed to email me some pharm ppts. He basically said that it was hard for everyone, but he said that the ones that failed or quit were not committed enough. For instance, they were not prepared to put forth the large amount of study time. He also mentioned the nursing language barrier as a problem for many of the students. He said that most of the students had backgrounds in non-medical fields and it was harder for them to adjust to the nursing jargon that the instructors commonly use. He also said that the nclex style questions were difficult to get used to.

As far as having a job during school, he said a few were able to work one day a week, but no more.

Looks like we really have to buckle down for these 10 months, but IM READY!

He sent me some pharm powerpoints. Anybody that wants me to forward them to you, send me an email at [email protected]

Hey all =]

I'm so glad we're able to get some information from someone who has been through the course. I have a friend who recently graduated from the same program at OLOLC, I'm going to see if she has ANYTHING left over from those classes that might be of some use to us. Hopefully she has some words of wisdom at the least, if not notes/books/etc.

That is great information. We have to always stay positive, focused and keep God 1st. We will all get through this together because what God has planned for us no man can take away. If any of us find out any information please share it with each other because we can all move forward in the program together.

God Bless Us All :o:o

Indeed! We just have to stay focus and remember what our goals are! I'm so glad that we all have each other!

I'm also glad we have each other. I would like for us to continue to stay close together when we start the program. At orientation I would like for us to some way know who each other are in person. Idk maybe we can wear a certain color or something (I know its lame but idk any other way for us to know who is who).

LOL, that's what I said before, kinda like a blind date, LOL! What will be funny is if one of the guests readers reveal themselves as well, since everyone that reads doesn't comment.

I know we will have to think of something before July 13th. LOL

I'm sure we will, I'm getting nervous, I'm @ work now & my co-workers r so happy 4 me but my stomach is in knots, LOL

haha i'm so glad I'm not the only one who thought about things like wearing a certain color and so forth.

A couple of people introduced themselves in an email, so I figured I'd go ahead and do the same on here!

I'm Jessica, living in the Kenner/Metairie area, born and raised in Louisiana :) I majored in Graphic Design in college (that's what my Bac. degree is in), but decided after a little over a year of working in that field that it just wasn't working out, I want more interaction with people in my career. Nursing here I come!!

I can't wait to meet everyone. It'll be like the first day of kindergarten all over again haha, but I hope we can all help each other out, have study sessions, and be a form of support through what will inevitably be 10 months of intense work. If enough of us use Facebook, I think a group on there would definitely be beneficial for when we can't meet in person. We could post information, links, etc on there.

Hope everyone has a great July 4th weekend!!

I created a facebook group for the class if anyone wants to try to join. I tried to invite some of you by using email addresses, but it will only let me invite people that I am facebook friends with. The group name is: OLOL Accelerated Nursing EJGH 2011-2012
