CSN Fall 2010

U.S.A. Louisiana

Published

I had been previously advised I could into Charity until Fall 2011. But after consulting with Charity, it turns out I can actually get in for Fall 2010! I am so excited. So, I scheduled my TEAS for September. You guys out there that are hoping to get for Fall 2010 please post here!

After looking over my profile and possible score, the highest score I could get is a 65....if I plan for Fall 2010. My original plan of Fall 2011 would give me the possibility of getting a higher score. What do you guys suggest I do?

I am worried that the cutoff score could be like.....66 or something like that. That would suck!

How are you guys preparing for Fall 2010? or is it just me so far?:D

Dear RN Hopeful,

Good luck on getting everything together for admission into fall 2010! I will be starting Charity in January of 2010! Very excited. In regards to the TEAS, when I took it in September of 2008, you had to have a 65% I think. However, my group was the last to have that requirment, a month later it moved up to a 70%. I made a 70.2!! And I was very worried that I would have to take it again, being so close to the cut off. You can only take it twice! And just so you know, if you decide to take it for the second time, they DON'T take the better grade. They take whatever you get on the second test!! Thats what I didn't take it twice because I was so nervous being that close to a 70%. But, I got in!

I have "heard" that is is easier to get in during the spring semester! I applied the first time for Fall 09 and didn't get in, I tried again and got accepted for spring 2010. Don't give up if you don't get in the first time! Its a great feeling once you do. The only aggrivating thing really when applying is that you have to apply a year in advance! Like right now, Im done with all my prerequisites, just taking classes I don't need, waiting to start in January. If you have any questions, let me know! Hope this helps! Good luck!

Hi!

I am taking the TEAS on the 23rd of September. I am soooooooooooooooo nervous about taking it. I want to get as high of a score as I can get to improve my profile score. I was told by someone at Charity that the cutoff for the profile scores have been a 60 for the past 3 years. I would absolutely die if that went up and I didn't make the cutoff.

You mentioned not to give up if I don't get in the first time. I am not sure I could try again. I heard that some people have applied 3 or more times before they get in. If I don't make it the first time, I would be soooooooooooo upset, I KNOW I will cry for like a week. I want this more than anything.

I did hear that the TEAS is easier than the previous exam so I guess that's in my favor. I would definitely like any advise you can give me. I don't mean to be too nosey but did you have a very high profile score? Sometimes I feel like just taking a whole bunch of other classes to improve every aspect of my profile score so I am more confident of getting in.

Okay, I might have yapped and yapped but as you can see by now, I am so NERVOUS!

Not at all, I completely understand! I am not sure of my actual profile score, however, my grades for my prerequisites were all A's and B's. However, I did attend 2 semesters at SLU and I had some pretty bad grades on my transcript from there. I think that is what got me declined the first time. And like I said before I had a .2% of a point with the TEAS and I got accepted. It doesn't matter how high you score, just pass. Now granted, they are going to look at those with higher scores first, but you have to just pass in order to be considered! You will do fine! There is a book you can purchase from DCC bookstore, that will help you better prepare for the test! I would start reviewing that now!! And stick to it, because I didn't, and I think it would have helped me more! :)

Well, as of now I have a 3.0 GPA. I wish it could be higher than that. I did get some bad grades at UNO but since I graduated 6 years ago, those grades didn't count against me.....Thank my lucky stars. I am completely stressing about all of this.

Yes, the minimum score for the TEAS is a 70 but you get more points towards your profile score if your score is higher, 70-79.99 is 5 points, 80-89.99 is 10 points, and 90+ is 15 points (I think thats correct). So of course, it is to my interst if I get a high score.

I purchased a book from Kaplan for the TEAS and I got some practice tests online. I am praying that I at least get a 70 so that I have a chance at actually applying to Charity. Application deadline is the 30th and my TEAS exam is on the 23rd. I am so nervous...its such a long test......4 hours!

I can't imagine how you must of felt getting denied the first time. How did you overcome the news and actually apply again? I need to be prepared for whatever the outcome might be.

Thanks for your feedback!

One more thing I forgot to ask you. Did you find the TEAS very hard? I have heard the math portion is really hard. Whats your opinion?

Thanks!

When I took the TEAS, I was enrolled in Math 118. However, there was some chemistry and physics on the test and I had not taken that since high school. The English and reading was the easiest for me. And they tell you to have Math 118 completed before you take the TEAS becomes alot of that class info is on the test. The 4 hours will fly by! Its all on the computer as well. The thing that got me was that it was timed too! I am not good with timed test. So practice taking the test under a timer, that may help.

When I got my first letter saying I wasn't accepted, I cried! For a while! lol And what made it even harder was that alot of the people in my A&P classes had got in, and I didn't! I felt like I was the only one that didn't. But Im still young, and I want to do Nursing very bad! So, I applied again. I didn't retake any classes or the TEAS or anything to bring up my profile score. Granted, my A&P II was now being looked at which gave me like 10 extra points I think! But if you don't get in the first time, try again! I think it's def worth it!

What exactly does the science portion of the TEAS consist of from the test you took?

I've read what it covers, but from what I've read from other people, the science portions are not all the same.

So were there more chemistry questions, more biology questions, or physics questions?

I found my test to be more physics. And I never took physics in high school or college. So that portion was very difficult for me!

Blester> You did pass though right? And knowing that you struggled with the science section, did you pass enough in the other sections to offset the science section? In other words, how did you wind up doing in the science section afterall and did you passs with the 70 or above score needed for TEAS?

I passed with a 70.6% And I got accepted to Charity on my second try. But when I took the TEAS last August the required score was like a 67% I think. Maybe a 65%. Im not sure. But when they bumped it up to a 70%, I thought my 70.6% was too close to call, I was too scared to take again in hope of a better score. I did well in the reading and english. The math and science were my weakness. I think that my reading and english evened out my score. I don't remember my exact scores in each section.

Congratulations on getting accepted to Charity. It must feel the best. I think have finally given up trying. I am thinking about going back to working in my field, business again. There is a very big difference between a dream and reality.
