Charity Jan '08 ACCEPTANCE came today

U.S.A. Louisiana

I just got my acceptance letter today for Jan '08 class. I can't wait. Has anybody else gotten their letter yet? I was wondering where is the best place to get all the medical tests done (i.e. Hep B, MMR, etc) that they require. I really don't have a primary care physician or anything like that. Any advice would be appreciated. Look forward to seeing some of y'all in January!

Has anyone taken there CPR classes yet? any info on where to go?

Specializes in nursing home,psych,chemical dependency.

check with your local hospitals,,,I had signed up for CPR at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, (had to cancel) but the CPR class was only $20.00 ! call around,,,,

I just signed up for a CPR course at Delgado westbank for next Fri 7/20-@ 9:00 am, the cost is $40.

I was thinking of getting a jump start on buying books for Jan 08-Does anyone know if the list changes from year to year, or is it fairly standard? If you go to CSN website and click on currently enrolled students, it gives you a list of books for Aug. I was just thinking I could start now, the list is pretty extensive.

Thanks for the info

Hey all CSN Jan 08 Students,

I was just looking around and thought I would say Hi, and see how everyone is doing. I am still so anxious:lol2:, but I guess time is starting to settle in. Everytime I attempt to look at books or check into scrubs, I never have all the info I need and have come to the reasoning that "patience is truely a VIRTURE!!" Anyone else care to share their thoughts, I would love to hear!!

congrats to all of you on your acceptance!

I am going into my second semester at Charity. I wanted to Congratulate everyone on your acceptance. To answer some questions, the book list does seem to change each semester. Also, some books are mandatory and some are required. Fundamentals of success is a book that is really good to read before you start. You can get your scrubs at uniforms by bayou. there is one in Covington and Metairie. They have the list of everything you need to get. Good luck.

I'd first like to congratulate everyone who got accepted for the Jan. 08 class!!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS! And to all those who didn't receive an acceptance letter--HANG IN THERE! YOU WILL BE A NURSE ONE DAY! I'll try to answer as many questions as I can. I'll be starting the Day classes this August, so feel free to ask me any questions as the semester comes to an end. I know I was asking just about everyone all kinds of questions the entire semester before I started. I got most of my vaccinations at a clinic in Harahan. They even offer the MCV4 (meningitis) there, but it's VERY EXPENSIVE! Your physical needs to be done 6 months (the earliest) prior to the beginning of classes. I done my TB about a month ago, which makes it 2 months before orientation. The books on the CSN website aren't updated. The updated list will be found in your advising packet that you will receive when you meet with your advising counselor. You'll find out more about your advising conference later on when you receive the letter in the mail. The Basics book is new. I think it's a 2008. Anyway, I took my CPR course at Tulane Life Support on Canal St. in New Orleans. It's $45. 4-hour course, and they give you your certification card right then and there if you pass the test (only 20 questions--VERY EASY). Don't do the CPR until about 2 months before Jan. so that it can be good until after you graduate. MAKE COPIES OF ALL THE DOCUMENTS YOU TURN IN! I can't stress that enough. Any other questions, just PM me or reply here. I check this site 50 billion times in a day just to see if anyone has said anything whatsoever about CSN! ONLY 16 DAYS LEFT UNTIL I START CSN!!!!!:lol2:

Karencita1228,

Where abouts in Harahan is the clinic you went to? I still need to get my physical and some of my shots done. Do they do physicals there also? Any prices and other info you could give would be helpful. Good Luck in the coming semester and hope to be joining you in Jan!

The clinic is called Elmwood Industrial Medical Center. It's on a street called Plauche Court off of Edwards Ave., which is off of Jefferson Highway. I've been told that their MCV4 is over $500 by itself. They do physicals* there, TB tests, varicella verifications, Hep. B vaccinations, basically everything you need for Charity. I got everything done there. As far as the meningitis is concerned, another guy told me that he got his for $110 at a family clinic somewhere in Metairie. I'm not exactly sure on pricing because I am covered for almost everything through my job, but I'm sure it's on the expensive side. You can call them and check it out though. Thanks for good luck wishes! I'll be sure to give you some pointers when you start. I'll give one tip of advice now though--there will be a get together before orientation called the "Student-to-Student" get together. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU GO! Ours was today, and I'm so happy I went. They just give you basic information that might not be discussed during orientation (parking, places to eat, organizations). They sell t-shirts, sweaters, stethoscopes, penlights, binders, caps, beanies, bags, umbrellas, etc. Very awesome experience!

has anyone gotten anything else for the Jan '08 semester? when is advising??

I was originally accepted for Fall '07, I did advising, background checks and all, but missed advanced registration and lost my spot for Fall '07. I got my acceptance letter for Jan '08 and confirmed but haven't gotten anything else. Just wanted to see if anyone else has gotten any other mailing to be sure I dont mess up this semester! Thanks.
