Hi Everyone!

I haven't done much toward my CLNC business this past year. I've busy working at my clinic job and, unfortunatly, lost my mother last Feb.after a long illness. What a life changing experience. Then Oct. lost my step mother. And bam here it is Nov. already! :uhoh21:

I did go to the 2-Day Apprenticeship in Denver last March. Somehow it didn't help me much. Later I joined the AALNC and ordered their book, "Legal Nurse Consulting, Principles and Practices". What a great book! It's helping me get back on track. Also, I will be attending the San Diego NACLNC conference in March. :)

Reading your posts in this forum helps a lot too. I've been so disorganized lately, which in not like me. Also, I am planning to go to the 6-day apprenticeship this spring.

Again it's great to be back reading all this great stuff. Happy Thanksgiving!:balloons: :balloons: :balloons:

Why is Vicki's program not recognized by the ABNS and is she planning on persueing that?

Can anyone give their experiences regarding any other programs and share their successes?

Hello, Ellen,:balloons:

I am so sorry about your losses. I can see where your priorities were elsewhere for this year. Cannot blame you one bit. My mom fell around Thanksgiving and fx her hip. I, too, have been so busy with family matters in the past few weeks/months. Hard to balance work and family, I know. Please know I am here and will be happy to help you when you need it.

The 6-day Apprenticeship will definitely be a factor that will turn your business around, I believe. The 2-day course, you can actually do at the conferences each year. I chose not to do the 2 day and am very happy with that choice. The 6 day course was fantastic. Very helpful in determining how I wanted my office to look like, library choices of extreme importance, how to locate expert witnesses, subcontract with other LNC's.

Also, actually working on a case and being able to leave with said case to add to my marketing package was a huge help. Being able to view the legal proceedings in the court system, hear a live deposition, and, finally, walk away with three interviews at home with attorneys. You will receive the templates for just about everything you need to do your cases.

Like I said, I will be here should you need any advice/assistance.

Good luck and hope to see you in March in San Diego!!

I don't know if you started yet, I am new to this site and came upon your post. I finished Kaplan's LNC Program, the program was great!! BUT...I finished last may and still cannot find work in Middle Tennessee. My advice is to investigate your area for the need for LNC's before putting out the expense of the education (unless you are willing to travel).

Hello, tennrn,

Have you tried marketing throughout your state? I did that. My very first case was totally by email/fax/telephone/snail mail. The attorney was 5 hours from me. I have done several cases in other states as well.

If you need help developing your marketing plan, please contact me and/or post here.

Dear TennRN:

Are you near Nashville? It is a huge medical town - there must be work there for you. Lots of attorneys also. You can also try networking through Nashville Health Care Council. There is a lot of medical - related work in Nashville, lots of healthcare attorneys there, so there is work to be had, you just have to really aggressive in networking.

Just wondering, do you have to have a BSN to get your CLNC? Also, how much experience does a nurse have to have to be a legal nurse? I have worked for the last 5 years in a law firm, and have an interest in the legal field, but nursing is my first passion.

I bet being a legal nurse would be really interesting and very challenging.

Hello, TexasAngel,

No, a BSN is not required to practice as an LNC. To become CLNC, you would need to take the VIckie Milazzo course. The CLNC is a registered title through them.

You need only be RN. Having years of experience in the field of nursing is a great background for the LNC. As for how many years experience? That is an individual choice. I cannot answer that. As with any profession, experience is the key to success.

Your experience in a legal firm will be good for you as well.

I hope you do decide to become an RN and go on to become CLNC.

Good luck.

Thanks for replying Siri. I have been astonished by the unending possiblilities a nurse has. I fulliy intend to look at LNC option more in depth. I would prefer an area of nursing where I am not having to stick people with needles constantly. :chuckle That is an area I will have to overcome, and I know I can.

I've been a L&D nurse for 10 years, and have seriously considered legal nurse consulting. I've also considered going to law school, but at this point in my life, I'm not ready to devote more time to school (just finishing my MS in Healthcare Administration). I received information for the Milazzo Institute, but I do not know anyone that attended, and I wondered about its credibility. It is nice hearing from people that have attended. Thanks for the information!

Hello, alacek.

It's a good career choice. Hard work. Have to start thinking with a business mind in order to make it work. Heck, you already know the nursing part, just need to sell yourself and learn the ins and outs of the business world.

Let me know if you need any additional information on the V. Milazzo course. I will be here, or, you may pm me.
