U of L Upper Division

  1. Hello again everyone! Hope you all didn't suffer too much with the wind storm!

My question is about U of L's upper division and exactly when I should be applying to see if I even have a chance. I have heard it is very competive. I should finish up my prereqs in the Spring of 2010. How soon before that should I be applying? Any advice from fellow students or grads would be appreciated. Do I have a chance with a 3.0 GPA? Math is awful

    Thanks so much!

I'm a grad student there, and didn't do my undergrad with them, but I found this on their website re: guaranteed early admission for upper division:

Students selected for early admission will be required to maintain a specific GPA in the lower division and will agree to begin upper division courses for a specific semester. Ten spaces are reserved for high school seniors who will be first-time freshmen at the University of Louisville in the fall semester. In the spring, ten spaces are reserved for freshmen who have successfully completed the first semester of full-time course work and meet the GPA requirements

    Criteria for Guaranteed Early Admission

    Upper Division

To be considered as a high school senior for Guaranteed Early Admission to the Upper Division, an applicant must:
    • Have an ACT score of 25 or higher
    • Have a high school GPA of 3.35 or higher
    • Submit an essay of 500 words or less describing your interest in a career in nursing.
    • Submit a letter of recommendation from high school guidance counselor
    • Accept a start date to begin Upper Division courses for a specific fall semester
    • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher each semester of enrollment in the lower division.

If you are finishing all of your pre-reqs in the spring of 2010, then you need to apply by March 1 for Summer 2010 and June 1 for Fall 2010. I am applying for the upper division this upcoming March 1st 2010 for the summer. 3.0 isn't bad. I think the average is around a 3.2-3.4 I've heard from the advisors. I am applying for a 3.4 nursing GPA and cumulative. Plus they look at the 4 science courses heavily. Hope this helps and let me know if you get in!

Any idea when they will let you know if you're in?

I received notification that I got accepted to UofL, but they haven't notified me if i've been accepted to the upper divions. Its a little confusing since i'm applying from out of state. I applied for both at the same time, so hopefully I did everything right.

I just went to a Q&A for the upper division this week and I submitted my application Wednesday night. They said at the meeting that they are shooting to send out letters no later than April 15 but they are trying to get them out a week earlier than that so we can register for classes. Hopefully we both get in!

Oh, and I stated before that the deadline for fall was June 1. They have changed that for this upcoming year. The deadline is now September 15 because they are making the Pharmo and Patho classes a part of lower division now so you can take those without being admitted yet but you must have all your sciences done in order to take them.

I hope so too! I don't know if I can wait till April 15 though. You didn't do anything special when applyingti the upper division? I just filled out the app. That asked a few ?'s and that's it.

and you need to submit the background check, but yeah, the app was pretty basic information with the 500 word essay.
