Hello everyone..

I am new here a have a couple of questions..

I am planing to go to Galen Nursing college in Lousville for LPN and

right now getting ready to take ACT test..My question is

Do I need to take ACT and PAX-PN to admit or just one of them??

Thanks alot..:loveya:

Wow,thank you for a quick answer.. :redbeathe

I never took ACT yet:coollook:(lol,I am not an American,but a permanent resident:clown:)

Thats why I'm a little confused about tests..So,I need to get a high score on ACT(higher than 19 according on admission requirements) and I need to take PAX-PN and also pass it..So,am I looking for taking a total of 2 tests..?

I looked it up on their website and this is what it says:

"Applicants have the option of submitting an official transcript reflecting an ACT composite score of 19 or an SAT composite score of 1350; or passing the pre-admissions test (PAX) which requires a PAX-PN composite score of at least 92 for admission into the PN program or a PAX-RN composite score of at least 96 for admission into the PN to RN Bridge Program or the RN program. For SAT scores taken prior to March 2005, the composite score must be at least 920. ACT/SAT scores must be within the last five years;"

It looks like to me you only have to take one or the other! If you haven't taken the ACT, then it looks like you don't have to and you only have to take the PAX-PN. If you WANT to take the ACT then you can do that and if you have a composite score of more than 19 then you don't have to worry about taking the PAX-PN. So it is up to you.

I just finished my financial aid appointment and i chose sallie mae and my total loaned would be $27,000. is that how high it is? is that what you had before too for LVN? i just wanna think about it coz I dont like commitments that I cannot do in the future. That sounds like a lot of money and long commitment. Should I go?

leeroijaewon,

I noticed from other posts you are located in San Antonio. I will be starting Galen Louisville next month. Although Galen is much more expensive than other schools I was extremeley impressed that they have 50% clinical time which allows for much more hands on experience. I also appreciate the fact they are only a school of nursing and nothing else. Another huge bonus is it takes so much longer to get into other schools that may have a waiting list or only accept once a year. Another thing to consider, if you start now, you are that much closer to having a higher paying job. If you sit around and wait, you run the risk of losing motivation and giving up. if you are truly passionate about nursing, I would say go for it. I have heard that it is possible to find a tuition buy back program where you agree to work a certain amount of time and the hospital will pay off your loans. I would also hope you would go on to complete your rn because in KY there is a huge pay difference between LPN's and RN's. I just thought I would give you a little food for thought and ultimateley, the decision is one that can only be made by you.

Thanks you guys for the answers,You are awesome!!!

Hello wishinguponastar,

I am also surprised we aren't seeing more people on here starting in October. I know I have been working my tail off getting all the paperwork finished! I'm almost there and I just have to get one more tb test and one more varicella shot and I have to order my uniform from Nanco. Wow, I can't believe I am almost done with a seemingly unsurmountable task. Hopefully you are getting everything done ok and also if you haven't got all your books, I was able to get all mine from half.com for about $145. I hope your doing well and good luck!!

I know, it seems like this thread was buzzing for the people that started in July!

I also have the second varicella booster to do, and I get my second tb test read tomorrow.

I just finished my Financial Aid appointment today and I was really happy with the results! :yeah:

I've already order my uniforms and I have all the supplies I need except my books. I am also planning to go to half.com to get mine, but I was waiting until the book list came out on the 6th. I was able to figure out what books were needed by going to ED map and looking under the class name, but aren't you afraid they might use a new edition or something this quarter??
