BCTC Fall 2013 Applicants

U.S.A. Kentucky

Published

Hi all! Just wanted to see if there are any other BCTC applicants out there. I'm getting super anxious about hearing whether I got in or not, and didn't know if anyone else wanted to discuss our waiting time! Best of luck to everyone. ?

(FYI) They both told me the same information and they told me this separately. I told them both of your all's posts of registering now and that's when I was told of the purge of the system.

So I really want to triple check Monday, so please give me some solid information on your source of information.

I think it was one of the pre-nursing advisors that i spoke with. However, I also spoke with someone (can't remember her name) in the admissions office, and the girl at the student records office. All of them told me the same thing. As long as I turned in my letter of intent and the other required documents, I could go ahead and register for NSG with no problem. In fact, the woman at the student records office told me that everyone in all of the nursing classes, even those in their second year classes, have had to go to student records to get put in their classes.

Plus, I'm reading the letter they sent, and it says, "Please note that you will not be permitted to register until you have completed and returned the above mentioned documents." Basically it says after that that you have to register for NSG 101 before August 1, or you'll lose your spot in the class. It says nothing about having to wait for an email this summer before we can register, just that we have to turn the documents in.

I'm really not trying to be argumentative, which, after reading what I wrote above, I could see where it comes across like I am, but I'm really confused/frustrated as to why we're all being told different information about registration, and why it doesn't say anything about waiting for the email in the acceptance letter.

I've also heard to make copies of everything because they aren't super organized (BCTC in general, not the nursing program only), so I don't really know what to do... Super frustrating!!!

I do not take you as argumentative. I understand. The letter does state what you said above and that is why I asked the questions I asked on Friday...in addition to everyone's posts.

Pre nursing advisors can lift 'the hold' status on your account but they are no longer your advisors.

I spoke with a pre nursing advisor fri before the nursing advisor and Nathan. The pre nursing advisor took me into the nursing advisors office because once your are offered acceptance and you accept to attend the pre nursing advisors are not your advisor-you will be assigned a new advisor -a 'nursing advisor.' (no one new to the program has been assigned advisors yet with the 'nursing advisors' which makes sense with the summer email info I was given ...since we need to meet with a nursing advisor before registering. With that said check who your assigned advisor is and see if they are nursing or pre nursing or other persons and let me know what you find. FYI- any advisor even one not assigned to you technically can lift your 'hold.'

I'm concerned with finding out the detailed steps so I know what to expect and I can be organized.

Here are the steps the nursing advisor told me and Nathan

Step 1 submit your papers accepting

Step2 after 24 hours your people soft program code etc will be changed

To reflect the nursing program.

Step 3 - you will receive an email before Aug 1 over the summer with detailed instructions on registering but you must meet with a 'nursing' advisor before registering for first semester

I will ask again on Monday and post.

I'll ask again 'if you got your hold lifted and registered for semester fall 2013 first semester of nursing program if the system will purge -as explained to me Fri- therefore everyone has to wait for the summer registration email'

I will ask to verify again if they purge the system to individually verify each person accepted with promise to attend has all the pre-reqs.

I'll triple check the email over the summer too- that was news to me too because the letter doesn't state that but sometimes all the details are not listed with processes.

I don't want anyone to be caught off guard. That's never fun.

I will also confirm the steps again on Monday.

Thanks so much!!! I had met with my pre nursing advisor prior to getting accepted into the program, so my hold was already lifted before I turned in my documents. That's why I was confused. My personal advisor is Diana Torres, but she wasn't in on Wednesday when I went to talk to her, so I spoke with a blond woman who I assumed was a nursing advisor because when I said that I needed to speak with a nursing advisor said she could help me.

Also, I turned in my documents on Wednesday, and as of an hour ago, my people soft account still says nursing pending, so that's been over 72 hours. I'm just worried that the admissions office lost my documents since it doesn't reflect that in in the nursing program yet when Nathan told you it would reflect such in 24 hours!

Argh! This is frustrating!!!

Also, I really wouldn't mind if they do purge the system for NSG 101 classes, but as I said earlier, I just Would really like to be in the Wednesday clinicals so I can work Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Then again, I could work Tuesdays and have Friday nights off if I took the Friday clinicals. That would probably be better for my family life!

I have no idea what to say except that I received a different answer today or no answer at all but redirected to pre nursing advisor to admission to records back to admissions.

I had no holds of any kind on my people soft account but I still could not register for NSG 101 so finally the records office put me manually in the course.

Even the nursing office, pre nursing advisor, records and admissions stated the letter was not clear and a bunch of us were given different answers etc.

I'm going to keep checking my people soft account to make certain my program code is changed to nursing since it's supposed to be done once they process my acceptance acknowledgement paperwork.

No one knows who my assigned nursing advisor is so I'll take it one step at a time. It all took 2 hrs.

I have no idea if the system will be purged and I have no idea if we will get a letter or an email but I know our nursing advisor assigned to us will not contact us bc we have to contact them.

Sorry I could not get a solid answer.

Jen, thank you so much for gathering (or trying) this information for us. I registered for NSG101 and clinicals after one day I turned in my papers. Before that, I had an appointment with a non-nursing advisor. I had no problems or glitches for adding the course.

I contacted her about the nursing advisor issue, and she said the nursing department will contact us in a few weeks.

Is anybody using the https://www.certifiedprofile.com/ to provide information of vaccination, background check and etc? I've done most vaccinations already (from immigration process) and they were approved on the website. I will only need a TB test, hepatitis B and Influenza.

Is the Influenza vaccine available now?

Jen, thank you so, so much for trying to get the registration process clarified for us! I really don't think BCTC will change all of our stuff if everyone; or almost everyone has already registered for the class. If they do, I have a feeling there is going to be a lot of pretty irate students!

Just out of curiosity, what section is everyone in right now? I'm in section 1 for lecture, lab, and clinicals.

I'm fairly sure the flu vaccine is available year round, however I would recommend waiting until right before classes start since its only good for a year at best.

I am enrolled in J002 for Lecture and J0C6 for clinicals (Fridays).

So I turned my paperwork in yesterday! Woo hoo! Now I needed an admission form completed and actually got to meet with one of th coordinators of the program (@ Cooper) and when i mentioned the talk on here of being "purged" from your registered courses, she said she had heard nothing like that and that once the holds are lifted and you are registered, that you are in the course, period. Now I still have trouble registering not because of holds but because some of my pre-requisites are in an older purged academic file....back before Peoplesoft. So, someone in records has to manually put me in the classes once my "pre-nursing" changes to "nursing". Still waiting for some Lawrenceburg folks to jump on this posting wagon! :whistling:
