Hi,

I am doing some recearch on how to enter The US as a RN and would like to hear if any of you have som experiences with recruiting companies that you would like to share?

On the internet I easily find (long) lists of International RN recruiters, but when I try to take contact, quiet a lot of them do not respond back or seem to not exist anymore.

I have had some constructive contact to two companies - Assignment America and Avant HealthCare and are still awaiting response from others.

I would like to know if the companies are applying the same conditions and requirements or if they differ a lot.

Is there at all nurses who get recruited this way at all?

US employers are no longer recruiting from outside the US.There is a very high rate of unemployment of nurses in the US and there is no need for nurses from another country. If you want to work in the US you would need to meet the requirements of the BON in the state that you want to work in, pass the NCLEX find an employer and then qualify for a visa. This can take years.

Hi Loriangel14

Thank you for your response - I am getting really mixed informations. Last month I was in the US and had an appointment with an Immigration attorney who told me the opposite, that there is a need for foreign trained nurses in the US, but that the administration of it and the paperwork /Visa system was not adequate to meet the demands. It was from this man that I got the advice to contact a Recruiting company.

I am a bit doubtfull of chosing a "middel-link"company, as it is difficult to check for fraud. So I will probably follow your advice and do the process on my own, validation of credentials, fit the recuriments of BON, pass the NCLEX and then try to find an employer.

US currently been under retrogression and has been since 2006. Depending on where you was born will depend whether it will take 2-12 years waiting for immigrant visa.

If you read the general nurse discussion forum or any of the state forums you will see many new grad and experienced nurses struggling to find work which means trying to find employer willing to pay the $$$ is difficult

Hi Sidenius

I'm a NZ trained RN working in Australia and I too am looking to work in the US. I'm in the process of validating credentials with CGFNS so far so good, only have to have current practicing certificate verified (AHPRA is a nightmare) finally think I found the correct form, so will see how that goes. I think that you have to start somewhere if that is your dream and everyone wants experience so that is a bonus. I thought about an agency but I have a family and want to be in a specific part of the country so I have started out on my own. Good luck with the paperwork.
