US nurse wants to work in UK

Hello guys,

I am licensed in the US and planning to work in UK,(in the next 2 years)found out that I am also eligible for citizenship.

I wanted to know the process to apply for licensure in UK. Any UK nurse taken NCLEX yet? Are they similar, any resources.. will very much appreciate it.

Hey, I am going through the same thing! My fiance moved to London during my final year of nursing school, and I am now 3 months into working in the US as an RN. I am staying in the US until I have worked my 12 months and can begin the process of registering with the NMC. They told me I can send for the application two months before my 12 months are up so I can have it ready to submit at 12 months exactly. You need work references from senior nurses that have worked with you for atleast 12 months. I will be married by this time and I am hoping to get a work permit through my husband.

Will I still have a hard time finding a position if I have a work permit and am registered with the NMC?

As long as you have a work permit then you shouldn't have any problems, it is the work permit if you don't have one that will cause issues when looking for work

In theory you should be able to find work, in practice it may not be as easy as that, jobs are scarce and the only ones that are readvertised are those in places that no one wants to work.

Good luck let us know how you get on

You wouldn't get a work permit "through your husband" anyway. You could get a visa as his dependent as long as he still has his work permit, or you could get your own work permit as a nurse if you meet the criteria at that point in time. I think it'd be easier to get a visa as your then-husband's dependent

Redhead, I believe you'd have to prove how long you'd been living with your fiancee to get a dependent visa to be with him.

Again, you don't "get a work permit with your husband/fiancee." A work permit is for the individual who qualifies for it, but you can get a dependent visa due to your husband/fiancee having a work permit, which, to be fair, is probably easier than trying to go the work permit route yourself if you don't or barely meet the criteria to have a work permit of your own as a nurse.

Also to add if your husband leaves or abandons his job he looses his work permit then you too are affected
