hello

i am a uk rn wanting to sit nclex for the us. i applied for nm sbon in march including fingerprints etc. my cgfns ces report was issued in june 2011 but i still havent heard anything from nm sbon. how long after my ces report is issued should i expect to wait before i hear whether i meet the requirements to sit nclex rn?

also if they agree that i meet the requirements and can sit nclex does anyone know how long they give me before i register for pearson vue and nclex? i have read on here that its 3 months but that does not seem like a long time to do online study prep, register for pearson vue and then book to sit nclex considering att can take 4 weeks. as i am a uk rn i dont want to pay for kaplan online now to find out i dont meet the requirements then can sit nclex anyway, and the kaplan online is 4 months access so if i have 3 months from when i hear for nm sbon to when i sit nclex i will benefit not from my full 4 months access.

thankyou

rachel

Probably better to contact the BRN and ask them what is going on with your account. I believe you have 12 months to register with Pearsonvue but usually once ATT is issued you have I think in most cases 90 days to book exam. Remember if outside the US there is a extra fee with Pearsonvue to sit NCLEX. Nothing stopping you from starting studying now for the exam. Plenty of good threads in the NCLEX forum in the student section

thankyou silverdragon102. it is a relief to know it may be up to 12 months. i have already started studying, i am currently studying saunders nclex rn review book, lacharity and revising from the kaplan drug flashcards and have been for about a year now. its just that i also want to do kaplan online through atlas mr. as the online component is 4 months access i want to start it approximately 4 months before i intend to sit nclex so i can get the most out of it in the run up to sitting nclex. they will send me the coursebook etc as soon as i register so i can study that but i dont have to start the online component at the same time giving me time to study the books then i can devote 4 months to the online part of the course.

i just dont want to pay for the course if the bon then say i cant sit nclex.

I am planning to work in PA but they still require certification programme. That is why I applied through NM, I was then going to apply by endorsement to PA. Is NM likely to accept transcripts from a PA college that I make hours up with?????

US nurses are required to be general trained with hours both clinical and theory in Paeds, Obstetrics, Mental Health and Adult. The hours vary from state to state but are roughly in the same area. Best bet is ask the BON what hours are required and also ask local nursing schools in the areas you are going to be living in and see if you can be a guest student enabling you to make your hours up

Hello and thankyou,,, I emailed NM BON to find out the hours in Paeds and Obs that I lack and need to make up. This is the response i got

"you need to read the instructions in the application packet.

Or talk to you evaluating agency to assist you"

The application packet I downloaded with the Application for and this does not state the hours that they need to met. Also would the evaluating agency be the CGFNS? If this is the case how can they help me because they just evaluate my credentials,,, they dont set NM's standards to be met. I just feel like they are fobbing me off,, like i am a nuisance and wondered if anyone else has trouble with NM????

Hello Rachel,

That's a shame your chosen BON are not being helpful with your questions.

My friend was told the same when she applied to Florida BON......no hours in OB and paeds. However, they did not reject her outright. Instead, they have passed her file on to be discussed at the monthly board meeting (which is in 2 days time) and she has the opportunity to speak to the Board.

She is under no illusion that they will approve her, but at least she gets the chance to hear what they say.

Seems every BON is different. Good luck to you :)

Did you take a look at the packet that was sent to you? Read it over thoroughly and then if you still have questions then ask the BRN. Let them know that their instructions weren't clear.

I never really got an "application packet" just the information i downloaded when i downloaded the form and i dont see anything on there about the criteria

Ask them to clarify what they want. Nobody here on allnurses can explain what it is that the BRN is requesting. Only the BRN can, and since they weren't clear you need to go to them directly. They get paid to answer your questions. Good Luck
