Trying to get a job in adelaide

Hi,

I am a UK trained nurse. I worked in the UK for four months, then my boyfriend and I moved to New Zealand. I found it hard getting a job here because i only had four months experience, but I got one Eventually. One of the hopsitals would not employ me because I only had four months experience not a year. My boyfriend and I are looking to move to adelaide and I do not want to make the same mistakes.

Does anyone know if you have to have worked for a whole year before you can get a job in adelaide?

Also Ive tried ringing and emailing the big hospitals and they say there are no jobs at the moment but if i send my CV and fill out an application form then they will put me on a computer list! Is this normal? Because any other jobs i have worked in they advertise on the hospital web page?

Does anyone know if its hard to get a job in adelaide? Also are there no jobs because of the time of the year? Anyway I would be grateful if someone could help me!!!

Hi, I was offered 2yrs contract. Here is the catch if you are offered 1 yr, try to bargain for 2 yrs. I was also offered a sponsorship for permanent residency after 6months i think under the 857 Employer Nomination Scheme/Regional Sponsored Scheme ( Adelaide as a regional area). It's been a while since i visited the forum lots of work at the Paediatrics Department.GoodLuck to all.:)

you could apply to some of the private hospitals new grad programs rather than the public hospitals. They are more likely to take on an overseas trained nurse. the hospital I work at in Melbourne takes on overseas nurses in its new grad program.

Try talking to the international recruiter for the hospital that you are looking into applying for, they should be able to point you in the right direction.

Hi I know this is an old post but I am in a similar situation, I am moving to Geelong in Melbourne, when I qualify due to husband's work. I am wondering if you could tell me the hospitals that take on overseas nurses onto its new graduate program as I feel this may be my only option.

Thanks for your help

New grad programs are full as they start the Jan intake on 4 weeks and Feb 3 weeks after that. 30% of new grads did not get a new grad posting this year due to commonwealth and state budget cuts.

Gelong has a public hospital and I assume some nursing homes and hostels as well as a private hospital. Put health jobs in Gelong into your search tool and see what comes up.

Where have you moved from? There are differences in practice from country to country.

I have not yet moved and probably wont until End of Feb 2014, wish I could go sooner and finish my training there, My husband may head out in Summer next year but the courses are so different so its not really possible for me.

I am moving from Manchester, UK and cannot wait. I emailed a few private hospitals last night and they said they happy to take international applications, so I am happy to hear that. I have emailed Geelong hospital and even said I happy to do voluntary work for a year to get experience that way - not sure if its a viable option and not really an option I really want but I just want to get out there!

Do you know if any New grad programs start later in the year or just Jan and Feb?

Thanks for your help
