Should I take the CGFNS?

The state Im planning to apply to (New Mexico) does not require it but I'm planning to be endorsed to CA, would it still be beneficial?

Question moved to International Forum since it pertains to International Nurses, not specific to the NCLEX exam.

There is no reason whatsoever to take the CGFNS exam, why? CA does not require it and it makes no difference to an employer if you took it. It does not give you a license in any way.

It is not beneficial at all...................unless you are going to work in a state that requires it, and it does not look like you are.

You should be reviewing for the NCLEX and doing lots of practice questions while waiting for your eligibility letter (snail mail or e-mail) esp. if you will be applying for 'Initial Licensure' to any of the relatively faster State BON that gives out eligibility letter to sit for the NCLEX.

I've been finding out lately that some of those who apply in NM and VT and got their eligibility letter within 3-4 months are actually finding ways to intentionally delay their appointments because they needed more time to review. And this is not including the lag in finding a slot for a Int'l testing center. They just negated the very purpose of why the chose that State in the 1st place.

Also, they maybe finding out that there were lots of topics they must review extensively as it were not extensively taken up during their nursing school in the Phil.

So, just do a dedicated review while waiting so that you will not have to purposely delay yourself. There will be a minimum additional 1 month lag to get a slot to a testing center (after you receive eligibility) so that will work in your favor as well.

Got lots of bad feedback from those doing that. Foreign RNs passing the NCLEX for the 1st time is less than 50% and working will only make it worse.

Got lots of friends who failed the NCLEX even after a dedicated review. Some are even MD-RNs.
