Stable Work Vs. Training As Nurse

hi! i want to seek opinion from u all. i am presently working as preschool teacher. i am planning to resign bec i now have my license and all rquirements to practice as nurse. i passed june 2007 nle. i am having 2nd thoughts though bec i read some threads and it really is very hard to look for a nursing job. shld i giv up my work for training as nurse? and how long shld i wait for them to call me for exam and interview? if i ever get hired, how much is the salary? can i do both though? teach on weekdays and train for weekends? is there such schedule that i can train during weekends?
im so confuse. i do want to be a nurse but i also want to earn at the same time.

If you really want to become a nurse, then go! But then you have to choose which work you want. You can't have both your job as a nurse and teacher. And yes it is really difficult to look for a job nowadays! WAiting for the exam and interview depends on the hospital you want to work. Please dont expect that you'll get hired immediately because there are already overproduction of nurses here in the Philippines so it would take time for them to hire nurses because they want to choose who is the best. Since the retrogression is on going, there are senior nurses who can't live their work so there are no vacancies.

You can't teach on weekends and work as a nurse on weekdays. There's no such kind of schedule especially if your a new nurse. IF you give them that info immediately, I guarantee you, they wont hire you! BEcause there are other nurses who are willing to work full time as a nurse and only as a nurse....

I'm also a new nurse and its really hard to be one!!!! All the stress! I can't even live the unit exactly 1400H or 2200H. Even if your time management is good, there are things that can change it. Well I'm not saying this is applicable to all, the senior nurses are already good at this...

Salary also depends on the hospital you want to work with. Work in a government hospital and the salary is larger than the private hospital but look at the census. Work in a private hospital and your salary sometimes is not that good... So it all depends on where you work.

We'll give you options, but have to make your own choice...

hi i guess i have same dillema as you have although mine is slightly different..im having difficult time with my work and planning to resign..but i was thinking while others are looking for a job and im here with a job but want to resign..thats the irony of life..i love being a nurse..i work as a staff nurse at a private hospital..minimum wage is 7thou per month or less..its really difficult to budget my money especially that my hospital is far way from my home because so far its the only hospital that hired me so i grab the oppurtunity..i work at qc and live here in san mateo rizal..so difficult and tiring to commute everyday.

Having a work with low income is better than no work at all.... Yes its really hard to budget money with that kind of salary. With the SSS, tax, Philhealth and others, I dont think your getting around 2000 per pay day!

We have to make sacrifices. Would you rather risk losing your job and experience for that? If.... if.... you can look for other hospitals that will hire you, and you dont have a contract on your currect employer, then resign! But if there's no guarantee that you can find a new job as a nurse after you resign, then I dont think you should resign. Because if you do, you'll just add up to those nurses who are currently umemployed and are waiting for a mile line to be called by an employer. Make your choice.....

You are lucky that you have your present job as a pre-school teacher now. I know that it's not easy to find a job in the Philippines in general so if I were you, I'd hang on to your current job until you find a hospital that will hire you and pay you enough. But if you think you can afford risking everything right now, then it's up to you to follow your heart. Good luck!

i understand why u want to resign... despite the hardwork, u r only getting 7t... thats why i am having a hard time deciding bec of my salary, its good enough for me... but then again im not getting any experience as a nurse and if dont do it now, when wld i be able to qualify for going abroad? its really ironic, some people doesnt have a job and here we r with a job but are resigning... its so sad why do nurses doesnt have enough opportunity here in the Phil... if we are paid right and theres work for us here, then we wldnt have to leave the country... thanks for the advise... thanks for the advise... the thing is, it will take me forever to wait for a job as a nurse, i can only have trainings and volunteer work for hospitals (thats what i heard from my friends so far). I will be resigning to my job soon i guess in exchange for a very uncertain future as a nurse in the Phil... for now... but hopefully experience will help me build my nursing career and serve me best in the long run...

Here's a suggestion. WHat if you apply first in all the hospitals you can find and then resign when you are sure that they'll hire you. At that time, you wont lose a job.... except of course a good paying job from teaching...

i was supposed to do that before but my work schedule is Mon-Fri from 8am to 4 pm... by the time i get to the hospitals, HR will be closed. And also, i might blow my chance if one hospital wld call for an interview and i wont be able to go because of my work ( we don't hav substitute teachers).

Thank you so much for your suggestions. I will look for a job this whole summer. My teaching job will end this march 15. I have chosen the nursing path instead. Good Luck to all nurses out there!

Good to hear that. God bless on your chosen career! DOnt lose hope immediately.... It would take time for you to get hired on hospitals... just wait for it and it will come....
