does anyone here applied or now working as caregiver? i graduated last 2006.im a board passer.but up to know im not employed as a nurse.im working in a call center now but i really want to practice my profession.i have 3 months volunteer hospital experience in a public hospital.nowadays i know that it's hard to apply as a nurse in foreign countries like (US,canada,uk,australia)

so i decided to work as a caregiver instead.any advice that you can give me? what agency do i need to apply? do i need to undergo caregiver trainings? please help. TIA

What country are you looking at being a caregiver in? Canada currently are clamping down on immigration so you may find it an issue getting a work permit

im planning to go to UK or australia.are they accepting caregivers right now?

the job situation in the UK is very poor at the moment, and unless you fit into the shortage occupation list your not going to get a work permit. Caregivers are not listed as a shortage occupation so you would be very unlikely to find work in the UK

I salute ur desire to practice ur profession. It shames me to hear that BSN-RN has to choose between a volunteer Nurse or an earning caregiver. I thought I had it bad already....choosing to be a PDN. Kudos to your decision!!

You will not find anything for the UK as mentioned it is not a shortage and the UK is suffering from high unemployment so employers will really struggle to justify why they can not employ someone from the UK/EU

:crying2: It's really hard to practice Nursing profession here...and I'm too determined to go abroad...I passed the board last Nov 2008, but still, I can't find a job related to my profession. And it's hard to earn an experience, because that experience will be paid to some hospitals who offer volunteer positions...though it's okay to pay, and at least you're there, working as a Nurse, but then, it's so sad to think that it's not considered as an experience going abroad...they accept applicants who were already staff nurses or had been employed for a specific given years...phew...I wanna cry...wanted to practice my career but sometimes, I really can't get rid of thinking the disappointments of the situation of unemployed Nurses. The number is getting big, and got no choice but to grab any opportunity that may come along even if it's not related to the profession just to earn for a living...but still not earning...so!i hope, that one big opportunity for Nurses will open for me and to those who wanted to pursue their profession...

So, I have this plan B...to take a caregiving course...hoping that the employment is not as tough as hiring Nurses abroad...

You're right, finding a nursing job here is practically nil and i don't see it to improve in the near future. as a start, you can try to locate relatives from abroad that's willing to help, or decide first where you intend to go. I will not suggest for you to take a caregiver course at this time, first have a clear path to take before taking steps. Try to get back when you have decided and where you want to go 'coz different places have different processes.

Same here. I also got this big delemma . Either to be a registered nurse here in the philippines, ugh! hate to say but as volunteer nurse or to be a caregiver abroad. I really want to earn money not for my self but for my family. My relatives are willing to help, but i don't know where to start. Help me guys. Im currenly doing a volunteer work at a public hospital here in Laguna. Any suggestions?

I used to work as a caregiver abroad for more than a year. The pay was good. Better than being a volunteer nurse here in our country. However, there would come a point in your career when you would feel at a lost despite your earnings as there's no professional growth in being a caregiver.

After a year, I went back to the Philippines so that I could go home and practice my profession. I found career growth doing volunteer experience in different hospitals. Unfortunately the down side is that my pockets are always empty as my savings from working as a caregiver eventually went down the drain.

So in the end, it all depends on you and what you prioritize.

And no, you do not need to undergo further training to be able to work as a caregiver. In fact, you are more than qualified to be one.

im desperate for a job abroad. i have been a volunteer nurse for 2 years now. i am willing to work as a caregiver abroad if there is any oppurtunity. 3 years after college i think its time to get a real job and salary for my family. can you help me?
