Question about being in OPT to appear NCLEX-PN

Hi All

I am an indian student doing my LPN at a community college in Nebraska. I am about to finish my LPN in Nov. A recent info about NCLEX-PN exam appearance eligibility has made me confused. My school officials recently informed me that to appear the NCLEX-PN i will have to go to OPT, i cannt appear that in my present F1 visa status. Is it true? they said its a new rule, but it looks like a weird rule (actually they are also not very sure themself about what they are saying). i dont want to go to OPT now just in order to appear the NCLEX-PN, I wanna get my RN then think about OPT. moreover, the international advisor also says that if I get my OPT after LPN i wont be able to get OPT again after RN. if thats true, i will loose the chance to do my OPT after RN if I have to apply OPT now just for appearing the NCLEX-PN. can anyone please inform what actually this "new" rule is?

many thanks in advance..

I haven't heard this. As far as I am aware you are entitled to OPT as long as it is a higher education than the previous time you used it. Are you planning on going straight to RN from PN? if that is the case how are you going to maintain valid residency whilst waiting to sit NCLEX? Just trying to get a clearer picture on your study plans. Plus you are aware that even if you get OPT as a RN you may still be affected by retrogression and have to leave the US

Retrogression has been ongoing since Oct 06 and demand is still much higher than visas allocated and India is affected the most by retrogression

I'm having a hard time following your post. Are you trying to say that in order for you to sit for the NCLEX-PN you have to do OPT afterwards? But you can't have that with your F1 visa?

No they are saying that if i wanna appear the NCLEX-PN, I will have to apply for OPT first, then appear the exam when on OPT. I cannt appear the exam if I am on F1 visa (which is my present visa status)..

Call your BVN and ask them that question. You don't have to give your name so they don't know it's you or your situation. Well what you're saying doesn't make any sense to me. I know what you're trying to say now, but it just doesn't make any sense why you would have to do that. Is it for foreign students only?

BVNPT is the board of nursing in CA responsible for LPN licensure.

I posted the government link re OPT and it doesn't say anything there re new requirements and we haven't had any other post they have had problems relating to this new rule. See if the International advisor can give you something in written that gives a link to where this new rule is.

thank you very much for your kind help.. i will talk with them or send em an email..

as my international adviser says: i cann't do OPT again after RN if I do it after LPN. do you think its true? ( i am always wary of anything she says bcoz i dont think she's very clear about what she says, bcoz she caused me trouble with her wrong advice when I went to India last time, now I know why not many people like community colleges..lol.. )
