Hi there,

I feel your pain and confusion.. I also just recently passed the june 2007 NLE (but i still have a lot of problems as to how to register coz i'm in another country and might not get to go back a whole other story), i'm an immigrant in canada but since i got my education in the philippines i have to go through a lengthy process to register here as well. I've been reading up on how to apply for the nclex cause my relatives keep telling me to take it because i have more relatives there than i do here and they keep saying that it'll be easy for me coz' i'm an immigrant but i dont agree because canada and us are totally different (and i respect their differences and the fact that both countries make you go through a rigorous process because nursing isn't a light profession, peoples lives are at stake).. and after reading and reading all the rules about nclex i'm even more confused now because i think it takes as long too...! but i guess the difference between the CRNE (for canada) and the NCLEX is that you don't need working experience in a canadian hospital before you can write the exams.. Still.. i don't know anymore if i want to challenge the exams here or just go home to the philippines and try to take the nclex and live in the us..

anyways, most of my friends are applying for the state of new mexico.. even though they wanna work in other states.. they said they'll just apply for reciprocity.. they also said that theyll probably work in newzealand because you only need the ielts there while waiting for the processing time for their nclex.. and i think new zealand is part of the NAFTA (the visa waiver program in the us.. so maybe it'll be faster to get one? but im not sure.. coz' i read that the number of visas that the us can give to the phils is maxed out?..)

anyways good luck to you.. i hope you'll find a good state.. and congrats for passing the exams!

Please take the time to read the Primer at the top of this forum, there is much information there that you need to know. You also cannot apply for the NCLEX exam directly, you must apply for licensure as an RN to the state BON that you want. And you must be granted permission to actually be able to write that exam.

The NAFTA TN Visa is only for the countries that are involved in the NAFTA agreement, and that is only Mexico, Canada, and the US.

It actually stands for North American Free Trade Agreement. And that is not a visa waiver program, you still must meet the requirements to get that visa. There is no such thing as visa waiver program where you can work in the US. Australia has a trade agreement with the Us, but it is not part of the TN Visa program and has different requirements.

There is also no such thing as license reciprocity in the US, only the NCLEX exam has reciprocity; you must apply for endorsement to the new state where you wish to get licensed and meet their requirements, it is not automatically done.

And there is no such thing as the Vermont NCLEX, or the CA NCLEX, or any other state followed by NCLEX. It is one national licensing exam that is accepted by all fifty states. But again, only the exam is universally accepted, you still need to meet the requirements of the new state. And that can be writing the CGFNS exam, even if you have already taken the NCLEX exam; having the CES done, or even the CVS.

Again, suggest that you take the time to do some reading here on the International Forum, there is much information here that you do not know about.

And to add a final fact on to this; permanent residency status in one country that has an agreement with the US does not get you the agreement visa. You must have actual citizenship in that country to meet the requirements.

And then for the green card, it still goes by where you were born, not where you are currently living or where you are a current citizen of.
