hello

i am an american with duel nationality(french also) i live most of my life in the usa; i moved to france with my husband in december he is french.

i worked three years as a registered nurse in the usa, before to come here.

to work as a nurse in france is kind of difficult. first you must be completely fluent in french; next you must take a nursing exam in french depending on what you score on this exam you must go to school for a minimum of one year maximum of three years, you can not work here until this is done, because they do not recognize the american diploma as being equal. there is another way though which i will probably do at the beginning of the year. you can go to england to work were the diploma is equal and with the english diploma work in france because england is part of the european community and france recognizes the english diploma as being equal to theirs; hence there is no exam to take, and you do not have to go to school either; once you have the english diploma your only obligation is to speak the language and you can work all of europe.

Bonjour !

I am french but studying nursing in england and I was wondering if it would be possible and easy for me to find a job in france once qualified. Did you go through england to make your US diploma valid in france ? I know england and france are both in the EU but I know my country, we can be really difficult when it comes to qualifications. Hope you get on well where ever you are

Would probably be better to make this a thread of your own as both these are years old and may not even come to the site anymore.

You have an advantage over most as you can read/speak French so shouldn't have any problems finding work. If training in the UK you should have no problems as allegedly nurses should be able to move around the EU if from a EU country with no problems

Good luck in your training :groupwelcome:

Hello

I have the same problem, I'll be glad to have more information about what you have done in UK. I'm living in France sine 20 years and since that time I'm trying to do something with my diploma but no way. The french gouverment don't want to do anything about it.

Can you help me in telling me details about the steps to do?

Thank you

don't think getting your license sorted in the UK will help you work in France as they have totally different things and even UK nurses wanting to work in France have to go through it the same as a French nurse wanting to work in the UK. New member called Fred recently posted some links regarding working in France may be worth looking them up, only posted them in the last couple of days

Having a license from the UK will not help you in getting a job in France currently. Any jobs that are available will go to those that hold passports from the EU.

And right now it is also quite difficult to get a license in the UK for an American.

And a two year nursing degree from the US, whether ADN or Diploma will not give you a license in the UK. It must be equivalent to their degree which is three years. You may want to look into that first.

Hello

I'm now working in a clinic at Cannes, I got the french nationality and I can work in here. The problem that the french goverment will accept my diploma if it is comming from a europeen country. So all I have is to make it recognize in UK and I can work in here.

If you have an adress to give me in UK to send my demand?

Thank you again

i think demand is a bit strong but who will say the UK will accept it. You have to follow instructions with the NMC for overseas training and you are looking at several months as you have to pass a language test and a 20 day course at a recognised university. here is the link http://www.nmc-uk.org/aSection.aspx?SectionID=17
