I have to ask...

Just a few months ago, me and DH moved back to Canada, after living in the US for 8 years. To our horror, we discovered Tim Horton's had grown to epic proportions, and Robin's was pretty much washed-up. Tim's certainly has horrid coffee, so we can't understand the popularity. Thank God for Starbucks!

Anyway, can someone, anyone, please tell me what the heck happened? :)

Robins was never that big in BC or Alberta to start with. There are a few around. I remember one in Vancouver, a couple in Calgary, and I think there was one in North Edmonton. Don't remember seeing them in the Interior.

But Starbucks is overpriced and their baked goods are iffy at the best of times....

Robin's was quite popular here. I wonder what happened to it. Maybe run out by the rich Tim's? I don't know.

As for Starbucks, I agree, they are expensive. Their baked good here are excellent! Actually, the Starbucks here is one of the best I've been to, out of many in the US and Canada. It comes in second only to Boise. I quite enjoy it!

Laffs...I don't know of any Robin's here in Van., when I go home to visit my parents in Thunder Bay, the Timmy's are now in epic proportions. I think they put a drug in their coffee!

Maybe it's cause the Robin's by my place sucked. Stale doughnuts and watery hot chocolate. It was a disgusting place and I was glad when it closed. Long live Tim Horton's!!!

it's surprising that you don't understand the popularity of tim horton's, they offer a good cup of coffee that is reasonably priced. the cost of a cup of coffe at starbuck is ridiculous! i have never had a bad cup of coffee at tim horton's. one thing that i don't like about tim horton's however are the cookies, got a choc chip one once- worst cookie ever!

There are still quite a few Robin's in Manitoba... in fact, I just checked and there are 37 in Winnipeg alone. Truth be told, we prefer Robin's too, but in our current home, no such luck! We can walk to Tim's and Starbucks... but don't bother.

i live around kitchener and there are timmy's on every corner! i'm not kidding. the rumor around has it that tim hortons puts nicotine in their coffee which can explain how everyone needs to have one every morning. it's ridiculous!

although there is one every corner or few blocks in the morning, the lines are out the door and for the drive-through its on the road.

if the nicotine rumor isn't true the only other thing i can think of...people use it for socializing. you go to work and bring coffee for everyone..the apprentices have to go for a coffee run and since there are alot around they go to timmy's.

has anyone else heard the rumor?

Why don't I understand it? I guess it's just because I think their coffee is horrid! lol Starbucks is expensive, but I love it. I drink it at home daily, and stop in to pick one up only maybe once a week. I always drink breve lattes, I don't care for their house blend.

Maybe they do spike the coffee with something. Isn't that how Coke got started? :chuckle

Hi....I live in Windsor Ontario and YES... there is definetely a Tims around every corner....We had a few Robins in the city..But the ones we did have were in terrible locations...Even the drive through ones....I didn.t find their coffee all that impressive...Tims on the other hand.YUMMMMMMMM...Guess you could say I.m a Timmy's addict.... I don.t know about the nicotine in it..but I think the cream they use makes a big difference. I heard the coffee itself comes from Mother Parkers ..but its Tims own blend :

I live in a small town, and we did have a Robins. Since I don't like ANY coffee, I can't wade into the arguement of whose coffee is better...but I will say, I liked Robin's sweet treats, especially the "Robins Eggs"! We now have two Timmy's here, one on each side of the highway so they can get you coming or going. It sure seems the place to meet your friends for coffee or lunch, they are always busy. How is the Dunkin Donuts doing back east? Is it standing its own against Timmy's? Good grief, now I'm craving a donut!
